A sci fi series about space Marines was set in a future where tanks were no longer used. A long lance projectile had made tanks obsolete according to conventional think, fast forward a couple hundred years and a planet where the dictator becomes enamored with Hitler and Tanks.
No one had built tanks in several hundred years nor any anti tank weapons. The dictator builds a huge tank army ( but neglects to provide supporting Infantry) and starts a war with the far flung current empire. The marines land and are faced with a war they can't win tanks against lightly armed forces and no anti tank weapons. The solution? The Government pulls all the century old missiles from museums and depots and sends what they have forward.
But what wins the war is the stupidity of the Armor having no infantry support.
Just like the article points out Tanks with out infantry are vulnerable.

When I was a kid I had a SGT Rock comic that had some trippy plot where there were future Americans fighting future Germans with everyone in these crazy future tanks. I can't remember much about it but I think the tanks had some sort of advanced bubble canopies and that the German ones had Swastikas on them. I loved that comic.

I read Sgt Rock quite frequently.
G.I. Combat was about a M3 Stuart tank crew guided by the ghost of the Civil War General J.E.B. Stuart..

There's an error to my response. The comic was titled The Haunted Tank by Dc Comics G.I. Combat series.

Even so your reference to Sgt Rock made me smile. I started reading Sgt Rock around the age of 9 or 10. Still pull out some issues and enjoy them.

Never had that. We had stacks of 'Commando' comics, 'War Picture Library', 'Battle Picture Library', etc.
My fathers Biggles books were also part of the reading material for a young bloke.

I had Victory, Warlord, Hotspur. Great war stories. Read and reread them. Couldn't get enough.

Commando appear to be still going but they've branched out from almost solely WW2 to just about every other conflict you could imagine. The artwork is not a patch on the old stuff though and it's still aimed at 12 year olds.
Even years ago they had started to have a few stories from the German perspective. I remember one that was quite good involving 2 German army guys who had to drive a truck full of stolen art treasures in Northern Italy at the end of the war, and they weren't happy about it. Don't know if they've ever done one from a Japanese perspective though. Could be a bit tricky.
There were essentially only about 5 plots but they and the other above-mentioned titles were great fun as a kid. Some of them had pages featuring pictures and info of weapon systems.
This might be of interest. Charley's War, The Eagle-Mike Nelson, Hellman of Hammer Force, Major Ezy, Rat Pack...[:D]
