You can't go wrong with anything from David Drake if you like Military SF.
Hammer's Slammers is a classic and his other titles are worthy of any military SF buff's bookshelf. [8D]

Ah and don't forget Jerry Pournelle's Falkenberg's Legion and other of his CoDominium series of books. [:D]

Pournelle hosted a series called There Will Be War, went to 9 volumes, each with a theme. Nothing better out there.
WEB Griffin has written a lot, but his early series Brotherhood of War is awesome.
I've read a lot of stuff, but those are still in my permanent library.

What you’re looking for is The Complete Hammer’s Slammers. For space opera my highest recommendations for Antares Dawn & sequels. It’s written by NASA engineer, and it shows!ORIGINAL: OldSarge

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

There is the Honor Harrington series by David Weber.

And you can check this wiki page for lots of Military Science Fiction suggestions.

For the Napoleonic Spanish War (mainly) you have the Sharpe Series by Bernard Cornwell. Perhaps the best writer of Historical Military Fiction, in my humble opinion. I though his book The Fort about the Penobscot Expedition was an excellent read.

Depending on how science fictiony you want to be:

I really enjoyed this series. From start to finish each book left you wanting to read the next. I was truly sorry to see it end.
Turtledove has other alternate history books. I only read this series.
I guess being stuck at home I might have to spark an interest in reading again.

Another Military SF you might want to look at is Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet, and Lost Fleet:Beyond the Frontier.
I also second WEB Griffin series, he has several, But Brotherhood of War was/is my favorite, followed by The Corps.
Also, Jeff Shaara has a WWII series that I'm currently reading, as well as some other series.

S. M. Sterling's Nantucket series is a favorite of mine:
The Island of Nantucket is transported back to 1250BC & all sorts of military action ensues.

RE: Military Historical/Science Fiction Recommendations?
Like zombie stuff? John Ringo wrote a series on a pandemic man made that caused people to act like zombies, they weren't really they were alive just all higher brain function was destroyed. A former Australian Para and his family start recovery from sea about 4 months after the fall is complete they rescue mostly navy and marine personnel and by the end of the series that have a large marine Force recovering the world. Black Tide Rising is series think 4 books and 2 anthologies. Also a second group of 2 books about his Brother and his efforts, set in mostly the US.
Favoritism is alive and well here.
RE: Military Historical/Science Fiction Recommendations?
Also check out David Weber's safehold series, sci fi war on a distant planet. so far 10 books. Or if into space warfare check out Honor Harrington series. Look up author John Ringo and then David Weber they each have more then one series and Weber has a few stand alone books

Try the "Star Carrier" series by Ian Douglas. Interstellar warfare at its finest!
