We are seeking a Wargame Developer in support of a government contract for wargaming.

Position located in Quantico, VA.
Responsibilities include:

Conducting research and developing wargame scenario products, including orders of battle, Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace, and system capabilities
Assisting Game Designers by developing, adapting, and refining wargame mechanics and rules
Developing and producing wargame components, including physical maps, unit tokens, and references materials
Developing, operating, maintaining, and archiving simulations databases in support of wargames and events, with government-provided Model & Simulation tools
Troubleshooting issues with input, retrieval, or modification of simulations databases
Test M&S, terrain data, and scripts
Operate M&S tools during wargame execution
Develop a Program of Instruction for M&S tools
Using the developed Program of Instruction, provide operator training and over the shoulder training to government players
Provide data for government and other contractor analysts

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
•Qualified candidates must have a current and active Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI
•BA/BS in related field
•Must have experience with Model & Simulation tools
•Must have more than 12 years of related work experience
•Ability to work in collaborative team/staff environments
•Strong interpersonal skills.
•Knowledge of military affairs and/or foreign policy.
•MS Office, especially ability to build professional PowerPoint presentations

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
•Experience in wargaming
•Experience in Department of Defense M&S
•Background and understanding of military operations and future concepts, especially for the Marine Corps.

That sounds so cool! Im just south of Fredericksburg myself. Is there a remote or hybrid work model available for those of us that dont hate ourselves so much that we'd drive to Quantico every day?

I live in Fredericksburg too. The VRE train is a perfect way to avoid the traffic, I am on it every day... unfortunately most of this work does require you to work on site.

means you're only going to get current and very-recently-separated military members and contractors, b/c no one is able to get a clearance unless they're already in a job with one, or just coming out of a gig with one and it hasn't expired yet

I've got 14 years in uniform, another 8 as a contractor, and over 40 years of wargaming experience to go with 25 years of design, development, publishing, promoting, reviews, and covering wargaming (and RPGs) but I'm not eligible for this job b/c my security clearance expired after my last DoD gig ended back in 2012.
And I'm an oddity only in that I know how the contractor game is played.


If you want some fresh thought in the building - like all the non-prior service wargamers around here - you might want to go back to the contractor overlords and find out if there's any way to pay for the NAQ investigation if you can find the right candidate who doesn't already have a clearance. Yes, it's an add'l cost to the contract, but it's the difference between finding the 'right' candidate and the 'convenient' one (ie, less paperwork for HR)....

There going to have to do an investigation anyway as it is pretty clear that the person is going to need a TS/SCI clearance.

Why not just ask for someone who has, at one time, had a TS/SCI clearance?

My impression from the Navy was that an SCI clearance never expires.

They definitely do. IIRC "secret" has a 7yr limit, and TS has a 10yr one.

In both cases, you have 2 years after leaving a job to find another equivalent job before the clearance expires requiring a new investigation. Security Clearances: Active, Inactive & Interim

The time frame for Secret and TS re-investigations are 10 and 5 years respectively Knowing When Security Clearance Expire.

I dont want to alarm you, but What I see is an un-verified person looking for people with secret clearance, un-verified means he may not be who he says, and job may be false. he may be collecting info on everybody who sends personal info for job. I dont think if the job was real he would need to publicaly come onto a forum, i think it would be private. And I think a real job like this would have enough takers on a verified add

sorry just noticed he has 1600 posts, but still that in its self is only forum clearance, they dont call em sleepers for nothing

You're right to be concerned, but Bil H is a legend in the war-gaming community. He is one of the folks who convinced BFC to produce CMCW.

Besides, my decades worth of SF86s were on the computer that the Chinese hacked into. They already know more about me than I do.

You're welcome to not apply to a listing on the BAE Systems site because you think that BAE is somehow a fake bullshit farm

But you're doing so out of your own ignorance as to who & what BAE Systems are the type & quantity of contracts they have.

Moreover, you're also doing so out of an ignorance of who Bill H is, and his posting history here and elsewhere. Again, your prerogative to have that level of paranoia, but as above, it speaks to your own lack of attention as to what's gone on around you (literally) for years.

Not only that, but those of us that deal with the professional wargaming world (you can find me as an attendee, panel co-chair, and team lead for a design project in the Connections archives, as well as co-sponsoring Connections Online) not only know about Bill H, but also about the listing through BAE because we've seen it through other channels.
(and if you don't know what Connections is, again, maybe step back and learn a bit more about that practitioner community first)

So it's not just an actual pro whose bonafides have already been established over time, but a variety of other verifiable pros all involved in the discussion as though it's a genuine listing. Why? Because it is.

Truthfully, it's a lot easier to find out about the rest of us than it probably is about you, from open & verifiable records.

There are a lot of good reasons for a well-developed skepticism online. However, when it crosses over from well-developed skepticism into ill-informed paranoia through a lack of personal diligence? It just identifies you as a less-than-serious member of the discussion who's just in here to randomly toss water balloons into the crowd and claim that they "should've know better than to stand there"

i dont want to upset you, But not everyone who reasds a public forum will know who bill is, i just thought secret meant ist should be discused in private. and if you all know him why appeal publicaly for takers, im sure you and many can voach for bill, sorry bill, if i was really paronoid bill could be in hospital or on holiday and someone could be using his account , but im not im sure its bill but i have never seen secret clearance queries in public before, and links can be alias so a link to bas may say bas but lead somewhere else. its unusual so sorrry please excuse my opinion.

ps: I would of thought paranoia a good thing for secret matters ..and i think secret employers would expect paranoia as a
required skill

They're going to confirm your security clearance in JPASS long before you get anywhere close to getting hired

You can openly advertise "hey, this position requires a security clearance" - people do it ALL the time

You can't openly discuss the work done under that security clearance, which ABSOLUTELY NO ONE was doing


Again, healthy skepticism online is fine, but spend more than 15 seconds checking out the context and participants before launching into the conversation off the high dive and bellyflopping in the process

I think your missing my point, if you boil it down, everybody with secret clearance send a PM to someone on a public forum that is non military and has no military verification software to protect account. no verification with a Military email address, hes even asking to PM him and not just use a link, so hes acting as a middle man for a secret job. etc. etc.

I just felt that someone could be (NOT is doing, just its possible) collecting info on anyone who has secret clearance, it may of been someone hacking bills accout, the links may of been aliases , aliases can lead to sites of the criminal that a user may not know.

the actual applying for the job is not anything to do with my point, its just phishing for people who could be of use to bad elements.

The criminals do this, its not far fetched, if someone was phishing they would be doing this.

and anyone uses the phrase secret should expect to be challenged. even from people who dont know all the facts, as its public. also this is not a programing site, you buy games here, if he wants devs then should be on a dev site i think.

I am not military, so i dont see secret in my life, this is the first time, its unusual to me. i dought i would find any example of secret clearance queries on public games sites. I truly dont want to cause a problem, you just seem to not realise cybercrime is all over now, my phone has phishing texts my email etc... etc... and a list of people with secret clearance could be of use to criminals.

i am non military so SECRET is prob scaring me more than you if your used to SECRET stuff, to me its 007

I do listen. I disagree. Those are not the same thing, although you seem to think they are.

Well that was a fun diversion.

Anybody is free to log onto BAE Systems website and confirm the job listing, if you don't know what services BAE Systems does for multiple Governments, well then you might want to do some research.

Job is still open by the way.

The reason I posted it here is because we are having trouble finding wargamers, with military experience (not necessary, but it helps), that also have at least a Secret clearance. I am working on getting the clearance waived, at least so we can talk to those interested that may have had some military experience in past, or have a deep knowledge of military equipment, tactics, etc.

Bill Hey, If I were you if you are Bill if you want the best, and bayonetbrant could lead them, because my experience of him is hes a pro,my advice would be to seek out the devs behind steel panthers, they have a group on shrapnel games aswell, and they have a forum supporting and modding the origignal, its prob best dev job on a wargame ever done. it has great tactics and acurate data on weapons etc... and the modders update with acurate stats.

if you want even better advice, redo steel panthers, you will blow everybodys minds.
