Error message about display

I use a 32 inch TV as my main monitor when home for my laptop. When I travel I get this error message and can't play:
"FAILED(settings_dialog: on_menu_command): Permission denied"

I've been playing this way for a while. This only started happening in the last month or so. I also get it if I go into settings and try to change the resolution when plugged into my TV.
