AI FASCAM & Smoke

Post by GeorgeCostanza »

Hi

Does the FSCC AI have functionality to deploy smoke and FASCAM? I have only ever seen it deploy HE and DPICM. It would be cool if it could be programmed so units can call in smoke to block enemy LOS or put FASCAM in front of convoys

Technically, yes, the FSCC can shoot those missions. The following conditions must be met: 1) The firing unit must have the correct ammunition. 2) The firing unit must have enough rounds of ammunition to perform the mission. 3) The FSCC AI routine must see a situation where the munition has a good payoff against the enemy. This is easy for targets with HE/ICM/PGM munitions but gets harder dealing with situational uses like blocking LOS with smoke or diverting/slowing an enemy advance with FASCAM. The latter cases need more work to train/provide the AI FSCC with the ability to recognize a good use case independently. Players don't have that issue. We will be looking into this as we go as we want a fully functional FSCC system down the road for the AI.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!
