Where does my money go?

Game setup:
300 stars, even clusters, very sparse nebula
Pre-Warp start
Very Few Pirates and Space Creatures
Human - Republic
2 random AI races
General Story OFF
Race Story ON
Colony Events OFF

Ok, here's the situation:
I'm some 20 years in the game and so far, every thing has gone swimming.
My cashflow for the last two years or so has been between 40 and 60k per annum in the green
The private sector is about 100k per annum in the green.

I generally have (well, HAD) between 100 and 400k cash lying around for crash research and ship building.
Besides my home planet, I have 4 colonies, with the best developed netting about as much as the other three cost.

I'm currently not building any ships.
I have not initiated any crash-research.
And yet, my cash reserve has gone from 140k (2774.05.23) to 4k (2775.05.27), up to 31k again (2776.03.09) only to crash down into the red (2276.05.07)

So, what is going on?

I just solved my money sink problem.

I got a single ship inside a nebula that could not escape this trap.

This ship constantly got the order to retrofit. Then stopped again. Money paid of course. This pushed Annual Expenses -> Ship Building to its limits.

Solution 1: assign this ship to another empire via Game Editor.
Solution 2: set this ship to Manually Control

I had the same problem and could reduce my money by clicking on refit. again and again.
The solution would be, that the money is only spent, when the refit really has begun (is in shipyard or the planet starts the refit), not when giving the order.

I already wrote this in such a thread.
I doubt it will be read. Who will at the end, after the big bugs are solved, concentrate all those bug reports and awesome ideas into one to do list?
I fear much work in this forum stays unsolved for a while.
So we just have to keep all those things up an life.

They are working on the gamebreaking part of the Nebulas in how Ion Defense works.

But you could post your savegame as a bug report.
Because a constant money drain sounds like a big gamebreaker.

Ingame solution would be to remove auto retrofit from this design or
make a gift to your most bestest friend in the whole galaxy.
Pirates always need good ships.

Thanks a ton man, I would never have guessed that one!

And yes, I also happen to have a single explorer sitting in an Ion Storm.
