Difference between "Raid" and "Attack"

Has any found any distinct difference in behavior or target priority being "Raid" Fleets and "Attack" Fleets?
Does one prioritize some targets over others? Does Raid harass but not fire to total descrution? Where "Attack" fires until everything is destroyed?

Raid fleets from my experience, AI focuses on attacking mining stations, Gas stations etc, fleets are smaller in size. Attack fleets are usually involved in attacking space Ports are being the vanguard of an invasion fleet.

Do they capture supplies on these raids (sort of like piracy) or just shoot an scoot?

I think the only game mechanic difference is that Attack fleets are assigned to attack points while raid fleets are not. Otherwise they behave the same.
The size of the fleet you can edit at any time and have no real impact on behaviour other than what it will consider attacking based on the target strength and it's own strength.

There is a difference (as far as i can tell). Raid are small fleets for hit and run; they attack targets that are weaker than themselves like smaller fleets or mining stations. Attack are your main assault forces, they will stay and fight.
Raid benefit from fast ships with a quick jump hyperdrive. A bunch of small ships are better for this. Even better if they have assault pods to capture and raid stuff.
Attack benefit from having the biggest ships with hyper deny. They should be the meanest ships you can build.

LordMM pretty much nailed it on the head. Raid fleets get attack points too, but they are given different targets than invasion and attack fleets. As LordMM said; mining stations. Attack fleets will incidentally hit stations, raid fleets deliberately target them as a fleet.
In other words, a "raid fleet", strictly speaking, is just a fleet that has been tagged for automation to be given mining stations as attack points, and it will execute that. So, if you have Fleet Postures set to manual but Military Attacks set to automated, they'll effectively be the same as an attack fleet.
It is a comparatively small fleet by default, but a player can mess with that. They incidentally hit and run, since their automated attack points are easily destroyed. However, they'll typically linger under default settings and happily engage in battle with individual patrolling ships, other nearby stations, and small defense fleets. They'll also respond to threats in their engagement range, just like all fleets- including threats they can't handle.

They do not raid colonies, even if they are outfitted to and can when manually ordered.
If they raid a base or a ship with boarding pods, they capture it as normal rather than raid it for resources and technology.
It is closer to raze than raid. I would like a true raid fleet type to automate the raiding of colonies.
