is riverine unload broken?

Maybe I missed previous posts about this, but is riverine unloading broken? I've been playing 'From the River/Cam son' and encountered all sorts of issues being unable to unload troops from the transports, either because it would create overstacking, or because 'no valid unit selected', both of which are untrue in the cases where this occurs. In addition I notice helos can fire from H alt on unspotted squares, but once a unit is spotted they need to go to L alt to be able to fire at it. Plus, every time the 'Ambush Eliminated' pop up appears there is a CTD just after. Thanks.

Any chance you can try this again with the Public 2.00 Beta?

Will do.

Ok. The unloading problem no longer happens with the update. Not so far, anyway. The helicopter anomaly remains though. I can target an unspotted hex from H with a UH-1C, but once the unit therein is spotted the helicopter has to descend to be able to target it. Haven't come across the ambush pop up yet....

Yes, you can't fire from High Altitude with any helicopters, that's WAD, I believe.
You have to be in Nap of the Earth or Low to fire.

But that's what I'm saying. I CAN fire from high altitude, providing I'm targetting an unspotted hex (with no revealed unit in it). Is that WAD?

Oh, no, that's definitely NOT WAD, they should NOT be able to fire from High altitude. Doh!

Having looked into this, I can confirm that air levels don’t come into play when firing at an empty hex. However, when targeting a specific unit, air levels are checked. For example, a gunship flying at High air level can’t fire at ground or NOE targets.
From what I see in the code, the idea was that a High air-level unit may randomly fire at ground-level area targets but can't engage a specific target from there.
I can add this to the summer update wish list, but for the upcoming official 2.00/3.00 updates, this would be too big of a code change to implement without proper testing time.

Hmm. I've seen videos from Ukraine where gunships fire rockets at a trajectory course to distance, like rocket artillery. You can do that here, too. Maybe expect similar results, ie not much. A gunship at High airlevel, firing at an empty hex in front of it, is effectively firing from a distance of four hexes, with the penalties to CRT implemented in addition per "mad minute" empty hex targeting.
So, for an argument's sake, and also as I have a long list of items to do, I would call this WAD

Ok. The only change I would suggest for whenever down the line you can - so it doesn't look irrational, as it does now - is they should be able to fire from H at hexes containing spotted units if they can fire at that hex at all.

Chees Phoenix100: I agree to your first observation in not allowing Helos engaging from H at all. I have added it to my list for the next (summer?) Update.
