Combat Efficiency

Hi folks, I'm still not 100% sure how combat efficiency works.

1. If a unit is not isolated but its company commander is, can the unit have a chance of receiving supply from the Battalion HQ (or higher) + a second chance from general supply?
2. How does the top HQ in the hierarchy get supply? Just one chance from general supply? If that chance fails the next HQ down just has to rely on general supply also?
3. Zones of control are not mentioned in the manual, but can you be isolated by an enemy units ZoC? This isolation can be negated by a friendly unit positioned in the ZoC?
4. If you move a HQ (or do anything else with it) does it affect its chance of receiving supply?

Sounds like a good topic for a video!

Hi folks, I'm still not 100% sure how combat efficiency works.
A few things to consider before we continue.

1. If a unit doesn't have a low on ammo flag, it is in supply - aka combat efficient.

2. If a unit has not fired the previous turn, it is in supply - aka combat efficient.

3. A unit that is low on ammo still functions as normal, just at a reduced strength during combat calculations.

4. The exception is headquarters, they will perform a check every turn.

1. If a unit is not isolated but its company commander is, can the unit have a chance of receiving supply from the Battalion HQ (or higher) + a second chance from general supply?
If the first platoon is not isolated (not the commander) there is a chance of receiving supply from the Battalion HQ. If that fails, it will test against the Base Ammo level.

If you lose your Battalion HQ, the units below will not be able to regain combat efficiency.
2. How does the top HQ in the hierarchy get supply? Just one chance from general supply? If that chance fails the next HQ down just has to rely on general supply also?
A battalion HQ will look up to the Regiment or Brigade HQ for it's supply, not the other way around.
3. Zones of control are not mentioned in the manual, but can you be isolated by an enemy units ZoC? This isolation can be negated by a friendly unit positioned in the ZoC?
Yes, when a unit is isolated, it is impacted by zones of control. In most cases a unit will have a 1 hex zone of control around the unit, allowing you to isolate a platoon by surrounding it with 2 or 3 strategically placed units.
4. If you move a HQ (or do anything else with it) does it affect its chance of receiving supply?
If you move a headquarters, it will automatically go into low ammo status and will attempt to regain it against it's parent headquarters after it has been immobile for 1 turn.

Thanks very much Jason. I feel more questions coming but it's late over here so I will ask them tomorrow.

Thanks again Jason. Some interesting info.
2. How does the top HQ in the hierarchy get supply? Just one chance from general supply? If that chance fails the next HQ down just has to rely on general supply also?

A battalion HQ will look up to the Regiment or Brigade HQ for it's supply, not the other way around.
I'm wondering how the top HQ gets supply? How does a Brigade HQ get supply? Just one test on base ammo? If it fails the next down also then just has once test on base ammo?
2. If a unit has not fired the previous turn, it is in supply - aka combat efficient.
So a non isolated unit that doesn't fire is guaranteed to be combat efficient the following turn without having to take any tests unless it is a HQ?

That is correct, the highest level HQ will check against the base ammo level.

Yes, that's correct. A supply check only happens if a unit has fired.

One more question Jason. When tracing a path back to a parent HQ are enemy ZOCs the only consideration? Do major rivers or other terrain features also block the path?

Thanks,
Chris

As far as I can tell, no, terrain doesn't affect supply ranges.

I could be wrong, but it is a wish list item that terrain is taken into account for me.
