A few questions about Air and Logistics

Post by shgenerolas »

Hi guys. I recently finished my first real GC HvH and have some specific questions you might be able to help with. I play as Axis.

1) One of the remaining doubts is how to correctly deal with air groups I didn't need at the time (especially bombers). During the first 12 turns I hardly used FB and TACB, I supported my attacking ground units mostly with He-111s from well-supplied air bases in the rear. So I transferred all unnecessery air groups to Reserve. If I understand correctly, in Reserve air groups loses good pilots. So what is solution? Pull unnecessary air groups closer to Berlin (for example, west of Berlin), or is it better to move them to Western Europe or other TBs, where they will actually fight?

2) How to use Romanian railway repair unit most efficiently? Move it alongside the German FBD and handle Vinitsa line faster? Or run a double railway to Odessa, and then connect with a double line with Vinnitsa? Or maybe it is worth running a single line along Black Sea coast?

3) A similar question: is it efficient repairing double line north of Kyiv that can connect the Kyiv and Gomel lines?

4) In the first ten or so turns I spent almost all my AP building new depots and assigning construction battalions*. I built a depot in almost every town, every 3-5 squares. Almost all of them did not have a railyard. I'm still in doubt, maybe I have damge my logistics by doing this? Because fraight traveled through depots that did not have a railyard for a long time (until the construction battalion built it). Maybe it is better to build depots at longer distances (5-8 cells), but where the railyard is already located?

As always, thanks for help guys!

* I also had a problem where the construction battalions would disappear before finishing repair work and appear in another town where the railyard is already fixed (or another battalion is already working there). I spent almost 10 additional AP trying to handle this problem. Link: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 6&t=406968

Generally, West TB is IiRC the only TB which can get you or lose you VP/AP due to Air percentages in it.
Reserve has the benefit that you can keep manual control about plane changes.
"NONE" intensity TBs should act the same as the reserve TB when it comes to training IIRC.
The Devs changed the spread of EXP which Pilots receive just recently, so I don't know if losing good pilots is still a concern. Besides this, when you as Soviets move your AGs T2 into the Reserve many (not all) Pilots will end up in the Pilot Pool, so do not get lost, not sure if someone can explain what exactly is required for those pilots to end up in the Pool instead of being erased.
