Bypassed US units

I really like the no ZoC and hidden elements to the game. However, bypassed US units being used to go deep into the German rear areas seems a bit much. It just doesn't seem like a battalion (usually much reduced in initial fighting) would be so enterprising once cut off to travel 5-10 km into the German rear areas to hold a crossroad or capture an important town (VP location).

The solution seems to require maybe more rear area security units closer to the front, still fixed but better able to control this issue…or does the German player just have to leave some units back?

Those units should die of lack of supply or become severely weakened pretty soon, and won't be able to move. Yes, some rear area security is necessary. You can create road block units by card play, or small kampfgruppes.

Very good points. I've had to do a bit of a "wack a mole" behavior myself to eliminate these pesky units, but as gwgardner says, they aren't very effective. However, I only play vs. AI, so not sure if a human player would "take advantage" of that kind of thing.

I am reading this thread. I do somewhat agree and have some ideas, but do not expect anthing immediately. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Mine seem to lose the ability to move after a few turns. I have played as the US and had units cut off from supply. I think maybe they can move 4-6 hexes before they stop generating APs / are unable to move. Playing as the Germans, I try to keep back units for security if I know there are bypassed US troops in the vicinity

I'm on round 3 of my first playthrough of Wacht am Rhein as Germans v AI, and I've just cut off & surrounded a good chunk of the 422 Inf Rgt (106th Div), and we'll see if they get up to any mischief. My plan is to make a few KG to keep them from causing trouble in the rear areas.

The issue doesn't seem to be that big of a deal when playing the AI, the bypassed units seem to stay fairly close to the point where they are bypassed. However, when playing pbem, seems that the units are used much more aggressively. Would be great if this ability was toned down a bit somehow....

I mostly find bypassed units attempt to get back in supply, so retreat towards their own lines.

Some however... do not. These can be very aggravating, when they decide to wander along your major supply routes.
