Two version systems for CMANO?

What is the connection between Build 972.11 and v.1.13.5? How do they "relate" to each other? I don't know about anyone else, but I find this kind of confusing. This game is complex enough without having two version systems for the same game.

They are one and the same. The build number is more of an internal tracking system, as there are multiple builds that do not go out into the wild.

Also, the Steam version does not support the last .x when listing the version number. One only sees Version 1.13, not 1.13.5, so the build number is useful there.

Hi,

The "v1.13.x" numbering is the "official" designation and used primarily for the auto-updater's benefit, so that it can know when it must fetch an update. In most cases, the "Build XXX.XX" format is the one used to keep track of the actual version you are using.

(This parallel-designation pattern is actually pretty common in frequently-updated software projects. If you run "winver" on your start menu you should see something like "Windows 10 - Version 1709 - Build XYZ.ABC")

The best way to think about it is build numbers (eg. 972.11) are incremental improvements in the game. Releases (eg. 1.13.5) are just that, public official releases. When a build is released as official update, the build number will align with the release version number. This allows the devs to have internal and public build numbers between official releases and track them. If its a big issue, they could let only release quality and numbered versions go out to the public. I personally wouldn't like that. I like the beta builds and being able to play with new features and influence some of it.

One simple suggestion is don't worry about the builds and just ignore them. Only download and use official (eg. 1.13.5) releases and only reference those releases. If you have the discipline to do that, build numbers become moot. If someone says you they need a build number, just put the release version in the reply.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll just play the game and hope that I have the latest version/build.

No need to hope. Just use the official version in the Member's area or on Steam. They might be slower to get the features in the beta builds, but if confusion and concern outweigh having those features, no problems...just stick with the official release.

I haven't really seen too many complaints about this in the history of the game.

It can be bit confusing, I always refer to version number on top of screen to check if I am with latest build.
