Danjo Wall: how to find the subs?

After playing Danjo Wall (and other sub-intensive scenarios), I need some help with the basics of sub-hunting.
In the scenario I've got a sub, two surface ships (one with a Sea King), and a single land-based Orion. None of the ships and boat are within the 24,000 square mile search area, and one is more than 50 miles away. The search area also encompasses a large island as well as shore areas.
Frankly, I don't even know how to begin. Do I use the Orion to build walls of sonobuoys in an attempt cordon off certain areas (even though I've only got 100 on board and another 100 back at base)? Do I rush my ships and boat into the search area, then start them slowly trawling? How much ocean can a destroyer cover in 24 hours? What is the best way to use the Sea King, with her dipping active sonar (which would take about 3000 "dips" to cover the whole area)?
Many thanks in advance!
