Casamance 1 - Arrival, 1986 -- new beta for testing

Post by Mgellis »

This is the first of a new series of scenarios I'm writing in which France assists Senegal against separatists. This first mission is logistics-oriented, and involves a fair amount of moving around of cargo. Part of the mission here is also just figuring out how to get your aircraft from France to Senegal, and how to do it before running out of time.

As always, please let me know what you think. Are there any errors or issues that need to be addressed? Is there enough time to complete all tasks outlined in the briefing? Is it clear what tasks need to be completed? Are there other issues with gameplay, scoring, the way facilities are set up, etc. that should be addressed?

Thanks in advance.

There's something weird going on with the C.160F Transall's. One of the aircraft's fuel burn rate is off the hook while the other's seems normal. No idea if this is a bug or what, but one of them will be unable to reach Dakar-Yoff even if it "hop-scotches" through every airbase as the last leg is too far for it. IIRC one aircraft's fuel consumption was around 35 (whatever the fuel measurements are) while the other one was more than twice that. The range ring for it also fluxed wildly.

One of the LCM's on the Senegal side ran out of fuel before the scenario ended too.

Other than that I was successful in moving the cargo from the Jeanne d' Arc to the airbase and from the one Transall that was able to make the trip.

No attacks occurred.

Thanks for the feedback.

No bug...the two aircraft are both carrying a 20-foot cargo container, but one of them has a much heavier load. Command actually takes this into account when calculating fuel usage! I love this game!

You can get the second C.160F to Dakar, although it takes a little micromanagement.

Will check the LCM...it should go back to port to refuel.

No attacks are meant to occur...if the player attacks without justification, there may be an unpleasant surprise. This was an experiment with a scenario that is not supposed to have combat but does have a ticking clock.

Will do a little more tweaking and then post version 2.

Just uploaded version 2. Any additional thoughts on this one or is it ready for the Community Scenario Pack?

Thanks in advance.

A good simple scenario that is indeed a good non-tutorial way to practice long range logistics without too much pressure.

Thanks Mark for your incredible work all these years.

I liked the scenario but I have one suggestion.

Spain-France relations were not high in 1986 so I highly doubt that Spain will allow the use of their airbases for a french operation. I suppose that Morocco was very glad to support the french operation in Kenitra and El Aaiun.

Of course, in case of Bingo Fuel, spanish airbases can be used but it should penalize the player a bit.

Thanks for the catch. I swapped out the Spanish airports for Moroccan ones. It probably wouldn't matter to the average player, but I like being as accurate as I can be (unless it's one of those where I say "it's an alternate universe!" and just change whatever the hell I feel like changing).

I'll post the revised scenario shortly.

Thanks again.

Currently revising the second scenario in the series, too. Found a couple of minor errors and a couple of places where I could add messages to the Events that will give the player some extra information.

I've also started working on the third Casamance scenario. Not sure when the beta will be ready to post here, but it shouldn't be too long.

Thanks again to everyone for all the help.
