New scenario for testing: The C-Team, 1988

Post by Stanley_The_Rolmate »

Hello everyone, I've got a new scenario for you all to test. In this scenario, you command a force composed of National Guard, reserve and reactivated units in an attack against Cuba on day 55 of WW3.
I'm very interested to hear opinions and suggestions.

---

Scenario description:
55 days ago, the conflict known by many as World War 3 started. Contrary to many predictions, all countries involved have thus far limited themselves to using conventional weapons. Although, this does not mean the war isn't the most intense and destructive conflict in history.

Until now, the Caribbean has mostly remained quiet, except for a few Soviet submarines most of which were sunk while trying to enter the Caribbean through one of its many passages and channels. Back-channel communications have ensured that both Cuba and Nicaragua have remained neutral. On the second day of the war, the navy launched a nighttime cruise missile strike targeting parts of the Lourdes SIGINT facility. Most of the Soviet SIGINT infrastructure was destroyed in the attack. The Cuban response was limited to issuing a diplomatic protest and a few fiery speeches by the leadership of the country. For most of the war, despite mobilizing, Cuban forces have been deployed in a defensive posture and have rarely left Cuban airspace or waters.

This all changed 4 days ago when Castro delivered an hour-long speech denouncing the US and its allies, accusing the US of planning to invade Cuba, decrying the continued US 'occupation' of Guantánamo Bay and ordering all Cuban forces to be placed at the highest level of readiness.

In response, the US heavily reinforced its forces in the area and prepared to take action to remove the Cuban threat. Due to the fact that most forces are more urgently needed in other theaters, most of the US forces in the area consist of National Guard and reserve units.

V1.2 (2-4-2025) Changes:
- Added more unguided munitions to US airbases.
- Turned off detailed gun fire-control
- Removed most Cuban mortars

This scenario is gigantic (very impressive)!

Unfortunately, there were so many units that I couldn't progress more than a couple hours into the scenario in one 2-hour playthrough - it really got bad after everybody started firing large-caliber artillery. I'd encourage you to consider eliminating some of these units, and setting more units whose only function is to serve as targets to have a "blind" awareness level. My understanding is that both of these things should improve playing speed.

There were two items of note in the briefing. The instruction in the ops order was to initiate combat by a certain time. Was this your intention? It's totally reasonable, I'm just asking because I'm way more used to seeing instructions to not attack until a certain time. I also really appreciated your explanation of the Red OOB - the detail there was particularly appreciated.

Something I noticed and worried about but didn't make it long enough to actually experience as an issue was a/c magazine depth. It looked like most of these units only had 1-2 combat loadouts. That might make sense for forward-deployed units, but not so much (in my opinion) for squadrons reconstituting at their home stations. If I was going to open up a new theatre of hostilities on my own doorstep, I'd want to have way more weapons (even just dumb bombs) at my airbases than I currently do as the player in the scenario. Otherwise, I'd just take a defensive posture, and wait and see.

I'm very excited to see where you go with this.

Thanks for your reply!
I'll take a look at the artillery, I have turned "detailed gun fire-control" on, but I don't know if this impacts performance. Starting ops by a certain time was intentional. The red OOB is extensive, but might not be 100% correct ;) . I'll add some more unguided munitions, the shortage of guided weapons is intentional. You're commanding forces in a secondary or even tertiary theater, and the long duration and intensity of the war have caused a major shortage in guided weapons. And most of the remaining stock has been assigned to other, more important theaters.
