Yes. You are correct. I like using "LCU" other than spelling it out. Makes me feel cooler than I really am.ORIGINAL: eskuche
LCU = land combat unit, a holdover from perhaps War in the Pacific.
Makes sense to me. Thanks for the tip.ORIGINAL: eskuche
In this game, you don't want subs anywhere near land-based air. If you hover over ocean hexes near your holdings, you'll see that 3-4 hexes away are medium recon, 5-6 low, or summat. Land-based air demolish subs, so really you need air control to project naval control, even for raiding.
I'll take a look at that ASAP.ORIGINAL: eskuche
I would recommend changing the unit appearance settings in the menu to strength-opspoints. The Chinese have deceivingly high man numbers, as you probably know.
I'll watch for that. Thanks for the heads up.ORIGINAL: eskuche
Effectiveness is lost at a rate higher than what the manual would initially suggest. The rule allowing for effectiveness loss due to parried, so to speak, attacks, drains much more than the 6% per attacker and 3% per defender. Also, units in China lose a lot due to weather (-10% per snow turn and -20% per blizzard turn, IIRC).
I've already ordered building some supply trucks, oilers, transports, landing ships, and something else that I can't remember now. Supply trucks mostly for the Chinese troops. Landing ships and transports for the USA some oilers for the British, etc. So sometime in March '42 I should be able to field that stuff.ORIGINAL: eskuche
Finally, effectiveness recovery is percent (not percentage) recovery of missing effectiveness, as shown in the manual example. So a unit recovering 28% effectiveness while sitting at 50% actually recovers only 14%. The exceptions to this are truck recovery, beachhead recovery, and probably air supply (which I haven't touched). At first glance, these recover effectiveness PERCENTAGE points at 4-6% flat points, so they're great to stack on top of the auto recovery. On further observation, there does seem to be some scaling for these last three modes as well, but I haven't quite worked that out.
