AAR: A Soviet Perspective

Post by ernieschwitz »

Hi there, gentle reader,

I have begun an AAR to the ongoing game we have dubbed "6 Player". It is a GD1938v3 game. We are currently at turn 8. Since this is an IAR (In Action Report) I will publish the ongoings with a bit delay, but it will be with full disclosure of what I am doing, thinking etc. This will allow me to reveal my long term thinking, as well as show off what is happening then, as it happened.

Here is the blog, that I made especially for it:

https://gd1938v3ussr.blogspot.com/

I believe the other players, also will have some sort of AAR going, or may start some up when it becomes relevant (USA is for instance quite quiet at the moment).

Have fun looking :)

Really enjoyed the way you started this ARR with a back story and excellent narrative. Hope there is more to come.

Thanks! :)

I have some turns that have been played, but they are too close to what is going on right now to make public... oh alright, maybe one turn won't be that bad to publish. Too bad the game right now is stalled :(

.. I read through the next post, and it seemed innocent enough, compared to what is happening in the game right now (turn 10), so I have published it (turn 4).

Have fun reading it :)

As a complete ATG rookie I fire up the game a few times a year, have some fun and usually get completely thrashed in about 20 turns. It’s a nice way to spend an evening and a welcome diversion.
As such, reading this AAR I am just amazed at how complex a real game of ATG can be. Well done.

GD1938v3 shows how much you can edit the base game, and get something special out of it. I'd say that this scenario is about as close to a game as you could get. Sure the GUI is ATG, and some of the mechanics are too, but a lot of it is modded.

Anyway, playing Human vs. Human is a good way to get better. Playing the AI you pick up some bad habits. Like not garrisoning cities and factories in your rear, since the AI doesn't use paratroopers.

Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for reading along :)

Nice to know that ATG is still played. There is hardly any game I have played more intensively. Stopped playing at a time when only a specific mode was asked for in PBEMs (guess it was some upgrade of GD 1938).

Greetings to ernieschwitz, this old ATG verteran! :)

Hey there,

Long time no see. Yeah, we are a few grognards keeping the game going. It has actually been updated quite recently, and that adding quite a few more features. You might like it if you try it. I can recommend the 4Seasons mod, in case you want to try some solo stuff, and want to see what quality is presently modded.
