About new graphics

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Looking at the bootcamp video (link below), I notice that the graphics have pretty much changed in 2.0
In my opinion, the LOS display was much better before, with the shaded hexes as compared to the purple hexes we have now ... Why did you change this aspect ? The new system looks much "cheaper" to me ... the shaded hexes seem to me a more conventional way to display the LOS. See the picture below, how do you spot these circled hexes now with the purple hex system ? It's pretty hard, no ?
Also the 3D view changed quite a lot ... Not sure it's for the best. The relief was looking better before I think. For example the "terraces" or the palmtrees, the crops, etc (but I like the new color).

Well, I'm quite sure many others will disagree with me so let your comments :-) Maybe there's a good reason I don't know about (I purchased the game yesterday so I never played the previous versions)

You can change to the shaded view in Options>Hex Highlights>Hex shading! Hope this helps?!

Some people don't like the hex shader method, because in some zoom levels the black mesh pattern introduces ugly artifacting. The mesh overlay technique is imperfect. Fortunately, we now have the option (as Warhorse pointed out) between

[*]Options > Hex Highlights > Hex Shading
[*]Options > Hex Highlights > Hex Block
[*]Options > Hex Highlights > Hex Outline

So the "change" was that while we still offer the hex shader, we have added more options. As the old Burger King commercials used to say, "Have it your way!"

About the purple hex outlines. Are you aware of

[*]Options > Highlight Colors

With that option, you can change the hex highlight to yellow, green, etc. -- something much brighter and easier to discern. Again, have it your way!

About the "new look". We prefer the new look, but obviously tastes vary. In any case, it is possible to mod things you don't like. The game system is easily moddable. Check out the Mods and Scenarios subforum for examples.

An example of Options > Hex Outline, with Options > Highlight Colors > Orange. (These are still beta graphics, are not the final version.)

Some of us prefer our highlights that way. YMMV.

And another example, this one from Middle East (the previous example was from the forthcoming Vietnam game), with Options > Highlight Colors set to Yellow (an older screenshot from a then beta version of Middle East):

Ok Berto.... Your on my S#@T list now. Don't tease that which I can't have. That means don't tease Vietnam or I may die of anticipation and then I won't be able to support CS with my money ever again! [:D]

I looked at every bottom displayed and anticipated maybe seeing a search for tunnel option. Will tunnels be included? I am assuming they will work like caves in Rising Sun. I was also thinking of a Ho Chi Minh Trail where Vietcong reinforements might arrive behind the US or something.

I probably shouldn't hijack this thread anymore than I have. Maybe I'll start a new thread for a Vietnam wish list.

Not to mention the fact that Crossroads mentioned EFIII alpha build and didn't have the descency to show a screenshot, at least Berto threw up a screenshot. For shame Crossroads[:D]

There's the Wish List thread already in the Important Posts section. It goes for all future wish list items, so any ideas or wishes indeed just post them there [:)]

Did he really say "Vietnam" ???? [&o]

Can we dream of an Afghanistan game with both Soviet and US/NATO wars ?

For instance, if you look at the CS Middle East British Order of Battle with Organization Editor, you'll notice the BAOR is there for instance. There is a reason for that, and the reason is not that the Rhine has a estuary in Egypt [:'(]

Working on it, 2D first, then a crack at 3D, but will take a long time. I can only work on it when I need a break from making unit graphics for VN!! A little tease. here is the LRRP team for the upcoming Vietnam game!![:D]

Another thing ... I'm surprise to see in the tutorial video that the toolbar buttons were colored and now the are just bi-color. It seems to me that they looked better before ?
Now they all look pretty uniform. I guess that the color was useful to rapidly spot a button ...
I like the 2D map and the new color of the 3D map but I'm a bit surprised by the other changes. But after all, it's mostly a question of taste so I understand that some other people might have different ones.
Regarding the toolbar buttons, I couldn't find a way to revert to the old ones. So I suppose it's not possible ? I can just change their size.

You are not the only one... I personally like some of the graphics like trees in JTCS better than CSME - somehow the scale of some of the vegetation in CSME is not as realistic as JTCS. Some of the trees in CSME for example look more like bushes. I hope in the upcoming vietnam game the jungle will look better and more realistic than JTCS (Rising Sun) not worse.

Keep in mind the hexes are 250 metres across, the design decision reflects a more accurate scale for the vegetation (not perfect, but more sccurate) than JTCS

And, of course, the game is modifiable.

I’m sure it won’t be long for mods to come out
