Combat odds

Hi folks, can anyone remind me what the combat odds are telling me when the tooltip appears showing 2/4 over the target for example. I assume this is a simple 1/2 odds attack using the CRT. This attack happens multiple times depending on the strength of the unit? In another attack the tooltip showed 0/2. What is this telling me? Is there no point attacking?
When I see the tooltip when using artillery it gives me for example 2/22. What does this tell me? 1 - 11 odds? No point in attacking? Both attacks use the same CRT? All attacks in the game use the same CRT?
It's been 15 years and my brain is now 61
Thanks,
Chris

Chris some reference notes from the manual:
Page 99:
When in Fire mode, the numbers displayed when hovering the target over an enemy unit are the
attack value against hard and soft targets.
Page 133:
While in Fire Mode, hovering the cursor over the unfriendly platoon will display a
popup that says “? – Unknown @ 37” (or more, depending if one of your SAS Troops are Disrupted). This
means that there is an unknown number of Strength Points of an Unknown platoon that your SAS Troops
are firing at with a combined Soft Attack strength of 37.

Aha! Thanks very much Zovs. For some reason I got it into my head I was looking at odds.

Chris your welcome, no worries.
The only type of odds I am familiar with are Assault odds:
An Assault is defined in Middle East as attempting by force
to occupy a hex that is occupied by the enemy. In order to
attempt an assault, the assaulting unit(s) must be adjacent
to the target hex, have at least 20 Action Points plus the
Action Points required to enter the target hex, an Assault
value greater than 0, be undisrupted, and in Move Mode.
The assaulting unit may assault as often as it can as long as
enough Action Points remain.
Page 86
But I don't think/know of any odds per se, it talks about the Assault Value, and the Defensive Value (see the numbered list and also on page 87).
Also page 94 lists the seven different types of CRT in use.
The CS ME manual is pretty fantastic at 401 pages!

I have read much of the manual but just got the idea that the tooltip was showing me odds. I've probably played too many games recently where combat odds and % chances of victory are given. With CS I think it is more about experience with the game. Eventually I will remember what is likely to work or not. The game doesn't hold your hand too much with that.
But as far as i can see only one CRT is shown. I think they are all the same? And the odds are shown in the first two columns?
Many thanks,
Chris

There are a number of CRT's, depending on what is being fired.
That being said, there aren't a lot of differences between them - yet.
Experience will definitely help you know what is going to work or not, but of course, it's combat, so you can't always count on the numbers.
