Subsahara Mod 1.0 download
Hi all,
Version 1.0 of the Subsahara-Mod is now available for download.
It includes 4 fictional scenarios with basic scripting to see some of the new units "in action".
You'll find them in the scenarios\Subsahara folder.
Creating historical scenarios will take some time and I can do this while the players are (hopefully) already using the mod,
report bugs, suggest improvements and - of course - creating their own scenarios.
Five "Bases & Icons" mods for Pro-West (ID14, as UN) and Pro-East (ID28, as FRELIMO, Katanga, ZANU-ZANLA and ZAPU-ZIPRA) are also available in a ZIP file (link below).
You can unzip the files to the "Mods" subfolder of your CSME installation folder and use them with the Mod Enabler.
The Subsahara mod can remain permanently activated, as it does not interfere with existing data.
Known issues:
You can skip the section in italics if you have upgraded to 3.00.02 Beta.
Since the files are not encrypted, you'll have to use desktop shortcuts for the OOB- and the
scenario editor with the "-W -X" parameters (meorg.exe -W -X , meedit.exe -W -X).
Using the corresponding buttons of the launcher will lead to a seemingly endless series
of error messages. If this happens by chance, close the respective EXE file via the task manager.
The mod includes 3D jungle for the classic terrain (mediterranean biome).
These files will be copied to the CSME-Path\graphics\map\3D folder, i.e. the currently acticve folder.
- If you're using the classic terrain anyway (i.e. you have already renamed the 3D folders as described in the manual), you're fine.
- If you have a vanilla installation (new terrain active), then
Option A: rename the folders (as described in the manual) everytime before activating the mod. Otherwise you will have a mix of both styles in one folder, or better use
Option B: copy the Subsahara terrain files to the CSME-Path\graphics\map\3D_Old\ folder manually (you may backup the content of the original folder before)
and delete the folder CSME-Path\Mods\Subsahara Mod\graphics\map
- If you play exclusively with the new terrain, delete the folder CSME-Path\Mods\Subsahara Mod\graphics\map right away,
before activating the mod for the first time.
If anyone has a suggestion for a less awkward procedure to deal with optional folders, let me know.
Please read the Subsahara10-mod-log.pdf for all changes (link below).
I hope you like it, any feedback is highly appreciated.

Re: Subsahara Mod 1.0 download
Thank you, Schlonz! This is so neat!
I for instance renamed the Graphics/Map/3D folder to 3D_OLD, as I do not need the legacy terrain images. For those who prefer the legacy 3D terrain, then your mod works as it is.
Here it is in all its glory with the new default terrain, in Middle East 3.10 BETA! (right click to open image in new tab to see my widescreen screenshot in full size)
Thank you for taking the time to create the Lua files for all your test scenarios as well
As for your question, I don't know if there are other answers but what you said.

Hi Jason,
thanks for the offer, but not just yet.
I may have to add, change or adapt a few things in the near future.

Re: Subsahara Mod 1.0 download
Hi
Thanks very much for this. I am in the process of installing the mod and noticed a couple of things I thought it wise to check on.
Firstly I noticed that when you copy the Weapon.PDT file into the data folder that it wants to overwrite the existing file of the same name. To play safe I set up a “Stock PDT” folder to keep the existing one in and a “Subsahara Mod PDT” folder for the new one, so I can swap back and fourth. Was this necessary ?
Secondly I see there is the same overwrite issue with the "unittext" file in the "Texts" folder so i have made separate back up folders for both the new and old versions on the same basis before copying the new one in the "Texts" folder.
Finally I see that there is a “subsahara” JSGME file with the mod does this go in the “Mods” Folder or the “Data” folder.
This is a Really great mod. I am also pleased to see that I now have a rival in the “Unit Picture Mod” department. I particularly like the infantry ones that show a soldier with the range of equipment that they used.
Kind regards
Ian

Re: Subsahara Mod 1.0 download
Hi Guys
Also I cannot find the additional OBE and scenario shortcuts you refer to so I can access the now nations in the mod. Where do I find / how to I create these. I seem to remember seeing them in a previous install of the this and the Vietnam game but I had uninstalled both of my copies so as to install the new remastered versions into a clean folder.
Also when I try and launch one of the new scenarios having enabled the relevant pro east faction in JSGME after I choose my side, in this case the Portuguese and try to launch the scenario, the game crashes.
Thanks very much in advance for your help.
Kind regards
Ian

Re: Subsahara Mod 1.0 download
That does not sound right, Ian.
If you look at my screenshot, Download the Subsahara mod zip, unzip, the Subsahara 1.0 molder, with Scenarios, Graphics, ... subfolders should go directly to your Mods folder.
Then, the Mod Bases & Icons zip, once you unzip that, the various Mod Bases & Icons folders there, each of them should go to Mods folder so each base mod is a unique mod.
Then, enable Subsahara mod and the bases you wan to see for one of the battles.
They should work directly with JSGME, there should be no need for any manual changes, apart from the Graphics/Map/3D folder, and the legacy graphics it contains.
Sorry for the somewhat vague step descriptions, I am not at my computer. I hope this helps.

you'll find the files meorg.exe (OOB editor) and meedit.exe (scenario editor) in the root of your CSME folder.
Create shortcuts for both files on your desktop; then right click on the shortcut -> select Properties and
add -W - X to the command line.
To answer your previous question:
As Crossroads already explained, there's no reason for manual backups (except - maybe - the 3D folder).
- the Mod Enabler does the file management and switches from stock files to mod files
- the weapon.pdt and unitext.txt were only supplemented with the new data; existing data was not altered
- when you're playing PBEM (or another H2H mode), the weapon.pdt is ignored anyway as the game uses the encrypted weapon.pdx file
The subsahara.jsgme file is just a text file with information about the contents of the mod and is not relevant for playing.
Regards
Schlonz

Re: Subsahara Mod 1.0 download
Hi Ian,
I think the syntax should be "D:\War Games\Matrix Games\Campaign Series Middle East\meorg.exe" -W -X
(i.e. only the command line inside quotation marks).

Hi Schlonz
Yes that did the trick. Thank you very much. I plan to do some scenarios using you mod.
Currently working on converting the “Paras on patrol” scenario from the Squad Battles “Africa At War! Mod.

Re: Subsahara Mod 1.0 download
Hi all,
if you have played scenarios from the Subsahara mod, you have certainly noticed a Lua error message everytime an enemy unit has been eliminated.
This error is caused by an mistake I've made in the Lua file, but Jason was kind enough to fix it.
Below you'll find a link to download the corrected files.
Just copy them to the \Scenarios\Subsahara folder, overwriting the old files.

Re: Subsahara Mod 1.0 download - I'm doing something wrong
I'm placing the entire Subsahara folder in the mods folder and I'm activating it in JGSME, but I'm not seeing it in the available scenarios when I boot it up. Do I need to unpack the Subsahara folder into the appropriate folders, i.e., data, scn, etc.? Thanks! Glen

Re: Subsahara Mod 1.0 download
Unzip the Subsaharan mod into the Mods folder. Make sure it is unzipped!
1. Open the main menu (assuming you're using 3.00).
2. Click on the enable mods button
3. Add the mod.
4. Press the button on the bottom right (REFRESH SCENARIO LIST) of the main menu - this will refresh the scenario list.
5. Sort the scenarios by Campaign. You'll see them listed under Subsaharan.

Has this been added to the 3.0.2 update?

SPWW2 & SPMBT scenario creator
Tester for WDS games
Re: Subsahara Mod 1.0 download
Nope, as it is a mod (or "user created content") and not an official add-on.

As of Middle East update to 3.00.02, all the editors now support non-encryption by default. Enable the Subsahara Mod, then launch any of the the editors from the front end, and it should work. No need for desktop shortcuts any longer.Schlonz wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 2:39 pm Known issues:
