Game does not launching....

Post by Nomada_Firefox »

Hi. At Steam and no-steam version with last v1.01.11.00, the game do not launch. The Steam version just do not give any error, the normal version gives a 0xc000007b error.

It happens with a new installation and I removed all previous files.

Can you please post the error log(s) from the runs. You say there are no error messages at all?

Cheers

I did not posted them because the game did not launch, just I click at play and nothing happens, the screen box blink and nothing more.

Curiously in my other computer where I had the game installed before and just it downloaded the update, it works without problems. Both systems use Windows 11 Pro and the unique differences are the CPU, Graphics card...the computer running use a Ryzen 7 5700X with a RTX 3060 and the other a i5-12600k with a RTX 4070Ti. I will study it later, perhaps there are anything, perhaps a setting.

I have tried install the game with a backup from the Steam version from the other computer and it did not change anything. When I do click at play, nothing happens. But the editor works. Now I have the steam and normal version installed but both to do the same, nothing. I will continue thinking what it can be.

Ah the Steam version do not show anything but the other version shows the 0xc000007b error.

There is not crash because the game does not launch. Just it.

I have attached a small video compressed with rar, you will watch exactly what is happening.

If it's showing a 0xc000007b error then it is crashing, inside the game. If you delete the error.log file then run the game, what ends up in the error.log file?

Cheers

That's very strange. Was there some kind of "launch now" option after the update install? Could it have perhaps launched as admin (meaning that a normal play session would fail to open the error file)?

Cheers

I do not know.........I installed the game from zero, there was not a update and I had not it installed before because I reinstalled Windows 11 few time ago. Before I removed these logs, it did not launch. I was thinking now if it could be something relationated with the steam cloud but......I tried with the non steam version.......who knows......just I know how it runs. :D

Hi,
The same problem occurs to me. I have windows 10 22H2, reinstalled several times to no effect. Initially I tried with Steam, but as it did not work I installed from the matrix/Slitherine files.
Just by chance, I had older comprehensive patch v1.01.10.00 and that worked for me. It is just the latest patch causing the problem.
The error.log file is not updated in the "My games" folder when the message in screen shows error 0xc000007b. It is updated if Editor is launched in same version, though so it must fail before saving such error file.
I refreshed Direct x and Visual C++ redistributable files to no avail.
Perhaps it works in Windows 11, who knows.
Thanks

Does the game launch if you remove the error.log file? How about if you rename the whole folder (in Documents/My Games/CloseCombatTheBloodyFirst)?

I upgraded to windows 11 but problem was not solved.
Further actions have not solved the problem:
Deleting error.lod did not cause to recreate it again.
Renaming folder in save games did not force to recreate the folder.

Thanks

Hi Santi -- could you please try renaming the folder Documents\My Games\CloseCombatTheBloodyFirst to something else (say CloseCombatTheBloodyFirst2) and then start the game? This should re-create the whole folder under 'My Games' when you run the game and also eliminate the chance that loading a mod or other local file could be causing the issue. Thanks!

Hi Steve,
With Steam version , it did not recreate the folder, but with the Matrix/Slitherine installation patched with latest 1.01.11 save games directory has been recreated. Now I can see the error.log, although game did not launch.
I have attached error.log and error_trace, but I do not see anything specially strange.
Then I have renamed errror.log and error_trace files, launched game again but no error.log has been recreated.
I have also deleted system.txt and options.txt files but same error and no error.log has been created.

When I launch editor it works. It created error.log. I see that strings "Sound driver not initialised" and "Internet Reader creation fail" are not shown in error.log when launching main executable and is created at first (the one attached). Perhpas this gives some clue.

** EDITOR **

TS: BattleObj
TS: Managers

That error log shows that the game has shut down cleanly, which is very odd.

Is it possible that this is an AV issue? It looks like the firewall is stopped the game from connecting to the internet, but that shouldn't stop it running.

Hi Pip,

It could be an audio issue, perhaps. When I remove all DLLs in main directory, program complains about missing mss32.dll (Miles Sound System). With the previous patch release, the second dll used is dbghelp.dll (Windows Image Helper). I know because because with previous having only mss32.dll it complained about that. If I remove all dll but mss32.dll with latest patch then 0xc000007b error appears again. This means that problem could be related to mss32.dll.
I just reinstalled Windows 11 because Windows security was not installed and added programs to the firewall, but nothing has changed regarding behaviour of this problem.

Thanks

The version info in the error.log file appears to be for the old (.10) update, not the most current (.11) If you have the latest update installed it should read "VER:914 : 1010B"

Perhaps the error.log is not being written to properly (i.e. the .11 update is crashing before it gets to that point) and thus the error.log is an old one. Or perhaps something is preventing the .11 update from installing properly and you're left running the older EXE file with mismatched supporting files.

If you have not already, please try renaming the folder Documents\My Games\CloseCombatTheBloodyFirst and then start the game.

Here is a listing of the files that should be in your install folder, ordered by date. This is from the Steam install but the relative date of the files should be true for the stand-alone installer too, even if the dates (and the EXE / PDB names) are slightly different.

Hi Steve, that error.log could be the one form the previous patched version or the one referring to CC_TBF_Editor.exe. Launching editor it is the only way to create error.log with latest version with newest patch.
I just removed installations and save games folder, reinstalled and same problem as before.
Saved games folder is created only with folder "SAVES" after installing, but other files/folders in saved games are not created until I execute CC_TBF_Editor. Afterwards error.log is not updated when executing main program.
Present symptoms:
When launching from the game menu, nothing happens when pressing "Play game".
When launching CC_TBF_STEAM.exe the error regarding 0xc000007b appears again and this is shown in event viewer with no more details.

It seems a problem with mss32.dll, but it worked with patch 1.010 and it works with editor (or at least it did not crash).
