My review

Close Combat: Gateway to Caen is the latest release in the critically-acclaimed Close Combat series and focuses on the largest, concentrated British offensive since the Normandy landings in an attempt to penetrate the German lines west of Caen and cross the Odon River to get the stalled advance moving again.

I understand GtC is the last in the series. Pity.

One "can use the powerful editor". GTC's editor is anything but powerful, it's the same toned-down one from CC5.

I suppose it's an informative review for someone new to Close Combat, but for a vet, it's shallow. You didn't scrutinize anything--so I'm sure the developers will feature it all over!

To me it read more like a product description than a real review. Some of the same text was cut-n-pasted from Jim's PITF review also.

You're right to a large extent. I was trying to point out that, while still fun, the engine is getting long in the tooth. As for the cut-and-paste, I've reviewed so many CC games that I found myself repeating most everything. I cleared the cut-and-paste with the editor.

I also pointed out the the proliferation of Bren gun sections would allow some new infantry tactics.
