Decisions, Decisions

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

Decisions, Decisions

Post by fastback »

Generally I prefer strategic or operational level games to the tactical, but I want to round things out with either Battle Academy or Conflict of Heroes (or both??).

I have some idea of both form reading the forums. Is BA superseded by Conflict of Heroes or is the scale slightly different? Are they sufficiently different to make both a different experience?

For context and my perspective, I am not sure anyone has really topped the Panzer Blitz series for that elusive combination of detail and playability, or stated differently, depth of experience without paralyzing micro management. I want my perfect simulation without reality, I suppose. Opinions out there? (I am ducking as I ask)

COH is squad level, single vehicles and plays like a board game. BA is abstracted somewhat squad level. John Tiller's Campaign Series, also sold here, is platoon level and has been compared to PB and PL.

BA only has one height level. Distance is also abstracted.
Conflict of Heroes "Most games are like checkers or chess and some have dice and cards involved too. This game plays like checkers but you think like chess and the dice and cards can change everything in real time."

Thank you for a clear summary. Yes, I have Tiller's system and I agree with the description.

You will not go wrong with either Battle Academy or Conflict of Heroes, BA is a more abstracted, quick, and fun CoH is more intense, tougher, and still fun.

Yeah coh is more realistic whereas BA is more checkers and chesslike. I like Coh more than BA.
