Campaign '39-'40 - the Axis

This is the corresponding PBEM report to Gary's Allies perspective but from the viewpoint of the Germans.

We play a "Historical" campaign - everything default.

I have played this a few times against the AI but never in PBEM and have to admit that I find it quite tricky to win against the AI in time (at least in Challenging - never tried any harder). Hence I am a bit afraid that the "Campaign" may be short lived and will end right after this scenario. But so is the nature of war.

As you probably all know, the Germans can win this scenario by taking all cities but Warsaw or alternatively by taking Warsaw (plus a some other cities) which have sufficient VPs so that we can afford to leave a few eastern VP cities to the enemy. We will try to play this flexible and leave our options open and see which way Gary defends.

Another important goal is to cut off as many Polish forces from the Evacuation hexes in the Northeast and Southeast of the map. Otherwise we will encounter these friendly defenders a second time later in the France scenario as volunteers.

September 3rd: 4A sector: The Poles withdraw very skillfully and we use most of our gasfuel to just keep up. Little APs are left for actual attacks. Gdynia holds this turn. We wished we could have transferred the units deployed here to the east sooner. We formed a pocket north of Kulm but it is screened so weakly that it is likely that most Polish units can get back to their supply lines.

Thanks to both of you for reading the AAR.

I did not remember which card was available at XV Korps HQ and needed to wait until I received Gary's next move. Hoth did indeed have the HASTE card for extra AP. I fully agree that there is no point in saving cards since they get replenished. I often overlook cards though (don't look for perfect play here) but I try to use the HASTE sometimes to reach a key junction or city that is just out of reach.
