Nope the latest Matrix version and the Steam release are the same.

I would love it if I could choose the counter design for the counters on the map and the counters on the unit display separately.
That would be perfect to me.

Hi spinecruncher,

You have to zoom in to get the fancy counters. There is also a button down the bottom (shortcut 'O') which allows you to toggle between different counter modes. You want the silhouette style and to be zoomed in.
