select construction yards on the build order screen

Post by Data »

currently, the info on the build order screen from the galactopedia states the below

"The ships will be built at any available space ports and colonies throughout your empire."

so it seems to be random if you have more than enough construction yards. Would be good to have an option to actually choose the yards we want employed for this? And not to make this to cumbersome let's say we'd have some presets like

1) build at the construction yards closest to this location (and we can select a set of coordinates or system or something)

2) build at the construction yards with the fastest construction speed (we may still have older models, not yet upgraded and colonies differ on this depending on their development)

3)..

4)..

I think it could be useful in order to build our invasion fleet close to the theatre of operations for example. Depending on your feedback, I will post this in the wishlist also...or not

That is a good idea. I'd like to be able to order new ships for an existing fleet and have them built at the construction yards closest to fleet's home system. Of course the automation would have to balance the load/speed of construction yards vs. their distance from the fleet location. As in some cases, building a ship at a further away yard would still be quicker, even when adding in travel time to the fleet's home system.

Perhaps that is asking for too much automation. But I do really want rally points in any case.

Those times I need that kind of ship building control, I just revert back to building ships as I had before the expansion.
Ship Bases screen - spaceports - build at whatever port I want.

correct, we can go even further and order the ships we need on the build order screen and then adjust what we don't like (remove some from where we don't want them build and place them where we want them build)

but the question arises for large number of ships so that we don't need to micromanage this....this was also the purpose behind the build order screen
how to avoid micromanaging this alltogether

A build order link through the fleet screen would be nice.

Choose a fleet
link to the build screen
order ships
ships created in the area of the fleet's home-port
Built ships automatically join the fleet

How about a way to designate a shipyard as either a Military or Civilian Shipyard (just like in real life)? No designation would be the normal, and could build military or civilian ships on queue, however, if designated a military shipyard, the slips would never be used to build civilian ships keeping them open for military construction as needed. A civilian shipyard could be pressed into service to build military ships if the need was great enough (that is you the player go the shipyard and tell it to build an escort, etc), but by default would handle the needs of the private sector and not take orders for military ships from the AI or little hammer screen by default.
