It isn't a unique ship. What you do with it depends on your situation -

- do you need the firepower?
- can you afford the maintenance?
- are you tech-hungry enough to trade the firepower for a (potentially useful) tech boost?

You'll get that message each and every time you take control of an abandoned ship (damaged ships in debris fields, abandoned and not damaged).

The only ships which are "unique" in the game are the World Destroyer and World Annihilator (names might be off). They are unique in that you cannot make their equal yourself, regardless of your tech level.

Names are kind of random. For me it depends. If I find one that has Titan Beams and the Torrent drive, I hang on to it and all the other ships I find that match up. Cruisers must have 200+ firepower and fighters for me. If it is one of the 95 firepower ones, I scrap it at nearest star base.  I do the same for all the frigates and destroyers I find. I groups found ships by the hyperdrive. If they have the same hyperdrive, they are in same fleet.

Capitol ships with 400+ get assigned to my home world fleet as defense.

Keep the cruiser for awhile, you can use it to destroy pirate bases.
If you play Legends, create a fleet with him and assign all fleet admirals to that fleet.
Without Legends dont create a fleet, just assign a hotkey on that ship.

Later when you got own strong ships, you can scrap him at a starbase for some research bonus.

I always retire them for the tech. Keep telling myself that one of these days I'll keep one for a dire military emergency... and I keep getting greedy and taking the tech bonus. [:)] To me it is one powerful ship versus an improvement across all my ships... playing large maps with expensive tech it is clear what to do.

Depends on size of the ship. Small ones i retire, big ones i tend to keep around for a while.
