What mod's to use and tryout?

I apologize in advance for any of you long time players that know all the mods and are vary familiar with the game. I am new to the game and am enjoying the game to no end. I am starting to look at all the mods and wondering which ones are must haves? Which ones are kinda cool to mess around with once? I am definitely gonna give the star trek mods a shot but maybe there are some buried ones that are really worth trying? Anyone care to give me a list, I can either search based on the name or I would really appreciate a link to the thread where the mod is from. I really wish there was a sticky of all the available mods and a quick summary but o well. Thank you in advance for any time that people put into the replies as it will deffinitly be appreciated?

Sorry for hijack, but is there a Star Wars Clone Wars mod? The Star Wars mod that already exists is only about the classical era, not my favorite.
