I get that Flashpoint’s scale is smaller but pros and cons against WDS series? Which one do people prefer?

There is no comparison. You can't compare Apples to Strawberries.
Flashpoint is a WEGO system and JTS/WDS is a IGUGO system.
Both have a different scope and purpose.

Having played both, Flashpoint is absolutely superior in gameplay, presentation, and UI.

As a bonus, the new game crushes the old game in every aspect. A biased viewpoint, of course.
