Hell's Crossroad

I have no idea if the screen shot will post but her I go.....

Not really an AAR but it fits this category better than the others. I am playing as the Pact against a NATO AI in the 'Hell's Crossroad' scenario. My plan was to hold the center and flank north and south. The BAORs Warriors and Scimitars were faster than my T-64's up north. They were able to capture the northern VP located in the town of Drievarden before I could get there. I continued to advance on all three fronts and captured the center VP worth 3000 points without a shot fired. The next turn the British units left Drievarden and headed southeast towards the 3000 point VP. I rolled my T-64's and BTRs into the undefended town and captured it. Now it seems the AI doesn't know if it should go back north or continue towards the center. I'm digging my units in and will steamroll south to block the AI's escape when the time seems appropriate.

Its really interesting to watch the turn unfold. I can almost see the AIs gears turning as it tries to figure out what to do. The biggest problem now is holding off the entire British Army in the center. Good game.

With all the fixes that are associated with 2.03 this scenario will be even better.

Good Hunting.

Arthritis had me in bed all day but I got some good gaming time in. That was a fun scenario to play and I just finished it. The AI shifted its focus to the center and the southern VP. Those Challenger tanks are some tough buggers. If I am in bed again tomorrow, I'll try it again but as NATO.

Yeah, about those Challengers....do you like Chieftains?

Screen shot of the final map minus units. I think the red/blue death crosses tell the story. The final few turns were bloody for both sides. The AI focused its attack around the southern approaches of Samern. The southern 1000 VP locations changed hands a few times. I had my BTRs and BMPs up north and the British infantry beat me up in the suburbs. I already knew that tanks in an urban environment without infantry support are vulnerable. The AI reminded me of that little fact. The Challenger MBTs that were not advancing sat around the center bridge in an over watch position and plinked my T-64s off. The AI got its long range artillery late but it made up for it by pulverizing my positions. My RAG was deployed too far to the rear to counter battery them so I had to try to use airstrikes on moving targets. My Mi-24s had mixed results: One flight was destroyed before it could get a single kill. The other flight racked up a dozen kills without a single loss.

The best thing about this game is if I replayed it again today the outcome might be totally different. I think my win came from more luck than brilliant tactics. I wish I had more artillery assets but I think every commander has said that since the advent of artillery. [;)]

I would have preferred facing Chieftains instead of Challengers. The British 120mm is bad news but a British 120mm and Chobham armor is really bad news. Bringing T-64s to a Challenger tank fight is not a bright idea.
