I think that one is really just one of those odd facts that happen to pop up, the 34th BG is the oldest BG in the 8th AF, but I have really never heard of it, I believe it was changed to a training, transport group or something

(it may be one of the groups that the 410's caught it just as they returned to base, one of the few GE intruder missions vs the 8th)

ahhhh, did some checking on it, it is written kind of odd, it is the oldest BG to serve with the 8th AF (that don't mean it flew with them alot or for long, only it was a old group)

it was used for anti-sub duty and then for training, it also was pulled apart for cadre for other units a few times, it did fly in action, flying 170 missions, 5,713 sorties

ahhh, here is a interesting part, 13,424 tons of bombs dropped, 131.6 tons of leaflets dropped (not many of the BG's claim leaflets)

Activated 15 Jan 1941 Langley Field Va, Training/ASW 1942-43. Returned to operational role 5 Jan 1944, joined 8AF Apr 1944.
Part of 3 BD, 93 CBW (later 3AD)
Sqds were 4,7,18,and 391 BS(H)
Flew B24H and J to 24 Aug 1944, then B17G from 17 Sept (Useful note - less than 1 month to convert Libs to Forts and return to ops)

First mission 23 May 1944, last 20 Apr 1945. Missions 170 (in 11 months, or c 1 per 2 days, (62 as B24, rest as B17). Sorties 5713. Losses 39 (none over foreign territory, as HS said)
