Suggestions for future patches

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

I got the game yesterday. First I tried BOB as german player, then I quit and startet BTR as allied. After starting the turn I saw german bombers and fighters attacking europe from the UK. [&:]
I think, the game remembers the grafics of the last player.

Another bug in BTR is, you could see 3/192 Sqd. with 268 planes (planing fighter sweeps). But only sometimes.

1) You have to back completely out of BOB, then reload BtR or vice versa.

2) This is an old "graphic" flaw. It can show up on any unit that can fly single a/c. ie. Schedule out an entire recon unit, then go back and change the lead unit. In other words add planes back to a unit. During the debrief phase the unit display shows 268 planes. (think 256+12). If you click through on the unit the squardon display level is correct.

Perhaps it would be good add more Operational points for the first turn only. E.g. in BOB increase from 100 to e.g. 300 Operational points and in BTR for small scenarios (Avalanche, Oil Offensive, Overlord...) from 100/200 to 500 Operational points. This would give more opportunities for interesting tactics (new deployment...).

One of my minor complaints with the interface...something that could be clearer...when you go to add bombers or fighter escorts...you're presented with a list which shows where they come from. There are two independant faults with this presentation I think and fixing one would be enough.

1. You cannot tell the distance from the lead group - so have NO IDEA where your planes are coming from unless you know where the locations are
2. You cannot "mouse over" the airfields on the map to get the names of the airfields, hence point 1 - you do not know where your added bombers and fighters are coming from.

Fixing one would help tremendously by allowing me to see where the added units are coming from. So for point 1, showing the distance to the Lead bomber unit (or lead fighter unit in a sweep) would allow me to choose the closest bombers/fighters to add to the raid, hence maximising coverage. OR you could allow mouse overs to work...so when I see units at Brest (lousy example as I know where that is), I can mouse over the airfields to find Brest.

I'd prefer the first option though. Mousing over all those airfields would be horrible.

JD;

I might be misunderstanding here...

1). In the display you get the distance from the unit's base to the form-up base.
For escorts: I usually filter, (click), the distance column. Closest will cover target area; farthest will be used for inbound, etc.
For bombers: I never have noticed a problem.

2) I'm thinking you mean during add fighter escorts or add bombers display. Yes, it doesn't
In addition, maybe highlighting the command's airfields might help.

Can you change primary sorting column in "Add Bomber Units" and "Add Fighter Escorts" windows to column "Range" instead column "Unit"?
And one more question, can be changed sorted column "Unit" as follows "Stab/KG 30 - I./KG 30 - II./KG 30 ..." instead current sorting "I./KG 30 - I./KG 51 - I./KG 54 - II./KG 30 ..."?
Thanks!

Is it possible to add a column called "combat/escort radius" to the Weapons Database?

An idea I was thinking about yesterday... An option to randomize were industries, airbases and squadrons are located, so you could play either the historical scenario or a newly generated one.

Also, could HS or Harley tell us which of the lots of suggestions made here are considering (if any [:D])?.
Greetings from Spain.

In reaction phase I use colored boxes. But when I watching "Review Missions" or "Replay Turn" colored boxes are replaced plane icons. Can be displayed by the user settings?

Not sure if this has already been requested, but perhaps longer aircraft repair times. And more frequent aircraft maintenance requirements, especially 4-engined bombers. I would hope this would reduce the number of sorties flown and aircraft kills to more historical levels.

Harley, Sarge,

I hear you about the Mission # CAP at 200..... but.... I dont have a problem hitting 200 missions. I have to run BC one day and Daylight the next. Between the two and my Recon + Fighter Sweeps I hit the cap and have to drop missions groups.

However I am probably the only one who does because I actually Run this freaking Air Force. LOL from some of the posts I am reading on other threads you would think this was the Forum for "Fantasy Island".... De Plane Boss.. De Plane...

If it is that big a hassle to change the Mission # cap I can just keep dancin [8D] No Biggie [:D]

Having a blast with this new Matrix Version.... outa Sight Guys [8D]

A few more requests/suggestions:

1. Message level 1 setting that does not show recon pop-up messages. It is really annoying and more time-consuming for unimportant recon messages to pop up and move me to other parts of the map while I am watching a large air battle. [:@] Please change this!

2. Ability to delete saved games from within the game

3. Ability to view next squadron without exiting current squadron view (like the button in WITP)

KayBay;

Just an opinion...
With the newer computers having so much more... I thought, "Great! More mission slots!" But...

Having a limited number of mission slots forces the Allies to prioritize his planning. Later in the game, when the seven Air Forces groupings have really built up it takes a different balancing act to meet all the requirements. The Allies have become use to a lot of recon, and a lot of intruders, and a lot of sweeps, and a lot of everything.
At late game stages, even on poor weather days it is easy to fill up two hundred slots, so you once again you have to deal with a change of operational concepts.

IMHO: Leave it. It adds something in late '44.

Golden Bear likes playing '44, I wonder what his opinion is?

When moving several in-flight patrols, one seems to have to move each one individually. It would be nice if one could
1. box them on map with the mouse and get a list (the game already does this).
2. select all in this list <as far as I know the game DOES NOT do this>
3. select the new position for this selection of patrols.

My opinion is the same but I don't want to miss the detailed battle reports so I "vote" for a filter something like this: Recons report: On/Off.

Another thing:

Mission planning: When I switch to Follow the mission before the TOT is incorrect before and after picking the lead unit too. I have to Review the raids to see the real TOT. Please correct this.

+1 on either of those. It's really bad for my eyes and brain when the map jumps all over the place to centre on a single F-6C rather than a major raid.
While the battles the British fight may differ in the widest possible ways, they invariably have two common characteristics – they are always fought uphill and always at the junction of two or more map sheets.

Oh good. So I'm not the only one who feels this way. If we get enough votes on this, maybe they will add a button to turn off all those annoying recon messages. [:D]

tbh, guys - I whined about the recon message jumps for 6 years. I know your pain. It just hasn't reached the top of the list yet.

Harley;

How about a "Screen Lock" Hotkey?

It is a toggle setting ON or OFF. Action Phase only.
Manual scrolling would still be enabled and Mini-map click is not affected.
Messege level's settings stay the same.
A Indicator would be a small "L". My preference is lower right corner.
But, a button in Game Options would probably be the easist.
