Sevastopol or not?

Post by Gunner98 »

Hello

Just getting back into this game after a long pause. Still using WiTE 1 but will be picking up WiTE 2 shortly. Still essentially a NEWB with this game but not Barbarossa in general

My question is: Why bother with expending the effort to capture Sevastopol? Or even the Crimea in general?

Sevastopol is a town, so no VP, it has no factories and not much manpower. It is a bloody fortress which is hard and expensive to take.... So why bother?

Thanks

Historically, it was for the protection of key resources supporting the Reich’s war effort, particularly the oil fields and refineries in Romania, which seemed vulnerable to Soviet air and naval attacks launched from Crimea. One of Hitler's pet phobias.

However, that's not too likely a threat that the AI will ever mount. A human Soviet player might be more creative, but I doubt it would much more than an annoyance.
