Something I do not understand. I am playing
Deluxe mod but I assume this is a game rule and not a mod rule.
So here the situation. I would like to invade
Crete. So I am moving a transport here.

Indeed, there is British carrier around. So I decide to move three fighters to do CAP over this sea.

But I am disappointed by the result. No fighters cover at all to protect my ship. Did I do something wrong?

Carrier air always op-fire when passing adjacent to their sea zone. It's why I designed the Pacific map the way it is vs the first edition of the game. I can understand why you may have thought your fighter air may have helped in this combat. But keep in mind it wasn't technically a combat. It was an op-fire before combat happens. Besides the carrier air isn't in that sea zone anyway, so the fighters would not have had a chance to fire at it.
I may be missing something, but I don't see why you couldn't have invaded Crete from the first sea zone. There was no need to pass through that op-fire. Anyway, you would need two transports in the first place to get to 5+ amphib so you can offload that infantry. Also, Crete is garrisoned by 1 Inf and 1 Mil. A single Axis Inf would just bounce even after it may have hit 1 defender. A para drop, as was historical, would be the extra unit you need to succeed in that attack. Plus, of course some Bomber support and BB's to soften them up.
The best way to take Crete is with 1 German Inf (hopefully a vet) via 2 transports and a Paratroop via bomber from that sea zone you started in. In that sea zone you would most likely have the Italian fleet there to provide shore bombardment and in Athens you would have some air support too. Then Crete falls rather easily.

Thank you and yes, you are right. I wonder why I was willing to go there to invade Crete.
I like your mod very much.
