Retreat problem in 1.040?

Playing Global Glory in 1.040. Germany took Eastern France and destroyed the transport in the Biscaya. Strangely my British fighter and Tactic Bomber located in Western France were lost although they would have been able to fly to England. Is this a feature or a bug ?

bump for an answer. I think it is a bug too. Later in this game a British HB located in Sardina was damaged without a transport link but no "unable to retreat " message was displayed here, I think its range is 4 which makes sense, as that would put it back in England.
Splain please.

I've been on vacation for weeks and not monitoring things.
I'd call it a feature. You are referring to a French surrender (I presume), it is not handled the same as a regular retreat.
