I played the demo which was 3D
I am funny and would not want 3D figures on the map but rather the traditional counter type symbols.
Also I would not want that explosions etc.
Does the full game have an option to do 2D with not special effects traditional counters??
Also what is the difference between the levels of difficulty- the manual does not say- better AI or enemy counters???

No.
A modder have start a project for replacing the counters with Nato 2D ones, a couple of months ago.

As far as it concerns the effects, you can disable the sound in the game options menu, and also choose a higher speed movement. To disable the explosions animations, you've to rename a folder in your Panzer Corps installation folder. In your "Panzer Corps" main folder you'll find a subfolder called "Graphics". Inside "Graphics" you've another subfolder called "Animations". Just rename "Animations" folder to "_Animations". And no more animations of any sort.

I'm sure you'll find there useful information.
