Bug Steam overlay - Play together stopped working

I used to play the game with steam remote play together, was slow but fun and better then nothing.

We preferred it over PBEM because we could watch each other turn instead of waiting for the next turn.
(Actually it would be interesting in this sense to have an option for a coop/team game vs AI where the AI is actually aware of it).

Well we didn't try again since one year or more but noticed it is no longer possible.

My guess is that the problem is bound to the steam overlay not working, maybe the Launcher interferes with it?
It is kind of easy to use the Steam api to connect to the steam overlay, I'm wondering if this could be corrected!

Note that Steam overlay never worked for SE. SE uses a form (software rendering) and not GPU rendering like almost all other games.

As for remote play working before but now not anymore, i dont really know, but that feels more like a change on the Steam side of things than on my side.

Best wishs,
Vic

Is it possible that you introeduced a Launcher (from the publisher) at a certain point and not at the biginning?

I remember something related to the Steam Api binding to the first process Launched for the game, unless rebinding or other reajustments are done steam doesn't know which Process is running the main game.
It should be pretty easy to solve if that's the case.

Play together is a big feature in this case since the game doesn't have real multiplayer (We own multiple copies of the game anyway).

Also an internal PBEM server could help ( not very complicate to implemen, nor costly).

Nope the publisher's launcher has been there from the start.
PBEM++ support might get added in the future indeed, but got more pressing priorities at the moment :)
A good workaround for PBEM is the "war of the worlds" discord server to play multiplayer and upload files over there instead of emailing them.
best wishes,
