[Preview] Flat Modern(ish) Icons

Post by tonechild »

Spent all day overhauling the icons in the game. I did not create any of the icons from scratch, mostly I grabbed free an open source game icons from a few sites (which I'll share), then painted / styled them. Would love to get feedback. I'm thinking this might just be part of the UI clarity mod, but maybe this should be separate?

These icons are a bit flatter and have less details, but the anti-aliasing and drop-shadow adds some depth to them. I'm not an artist at all so I'm happy with what I made. That being said I know an artist could make it much better. I spent all day picking different icons and then painting them, but never thought about how they would all look together. The biggest issue with it so far is there's not much cohesion. I would love some advice if anyone has any.

Here are some screenshots, keep in mind this is with various other mods on this forum as well, and this would only include the icons.
All resources were replaced, though I'm not particularly happy with the water one and may just revert it:

I replaced a lot of the private icons as well, but have not touched the logistics ones yet.

Even the fate, currency, and PP icon was replaced. The fate looks very similar, the currency no longer has the USD symbol, and the fist for PP was replaced with a gavel.

And here's public assets. I replaced the castle tower with a government building, the BP icon is an open book but has much less detail (is more flat) - the worker hats are also more simplified and modern.

So what I have left is the logistic icons then the map icons.

Where I got the Icons:
https://fontawesome.com/ (only the free ones were used)
Majority of the icons were taken from here:
https://nagoshiashumari.github.io/Rpg-Awesome/
The helmet for recruits was taken from here:
https://game-icons.net/

I just discovered game-icons.net, so there might be much better icons there (rpg-awesome made their icons from game-icons.net, particularly converting them into css/font files)
