Can US/UK stalemate Axis without USSR?

Post by James Taylor »

Never tried this before, late 44, Italy just took down USSR (usually auto-surrender). Hotseat, I'm teched up better than the Axis and am on the continent(got Paris), Japs not doing so well, no major losses either way.

Can the Allies stalemate the Axis sans Reds?

Allies can even win without USSR, they have an overwhelming advantage at sea and in the skies and US income is nuts. If you already have a foothold on the continent, it is much easier.

Russia down with Axis still in firm control of continental Europe together with reasonable fit Japs is commonly considered the point of no return. Most Allied players surrender at this point as from there on the snowballing will be brutal.
Your situation however sounds as if the game is still in a somewhat undecided state. My advice would be to continue at least for a while and just see how it goes. Might turn out to be one of those super rare close endgames. And if not and 45 turns into a onesided slaughter, you can still ask for terms.

If Russia surrenders, Allies don't have a foothold on continental Europe, China is near to, or has surrendered, and Japan is still viable, then I don't think the Allies have much of a chance. Axis receives abut 2,500+ from the surrender, and now all their Eastern Front units can be redeployed. At best the clock will run out with an Axis victory the summer of 1947. The game will offer a chance for the Allies to give up after Russia surrenders. If the Allied player chooses to fight on, then its just a matter of knocking British morale down to zero and they will surrender as well.

Yes - absolutely. As long as Allied morale is still reasonable they can win. There are 200 turns. If its 1944 and you are already in Europe you have every chance of winning. Air power is key.

This is true. Allies can still win if the USSR is lost and Japan gets taken out early enough.
Why folks don't see this much is most Allied players throw in the towel and quit when the USSR falls.
Bitter-enders, however, sometimes see all kinds of different outcomes not ever seen in other matches,.......

Yeah that match went deep into 1946/1947 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... jnmTpc6nmd

Hardcore and fun!
I remember springing 'Operation Yenesei' when the USSR was on the road to collapse. The W.Allies started to at least occupy all Soviet ports on the Arctic and Pacific coasts, engineer a Chinese intervention in Siberia to contest it with Germany, and went full steam on Japan. Years of warfare. Never would of seen any of that or come up with these schemes and others to wiggle out of defeat if we would of quit. ;)

SC-WaW is great for its length and scope. Nothing is certain till the last call bell gets ringed! :D

I've lost a game on the very last turn as the Axis despite taking out Russia in 1943.

I've also won as the Axis but it was a very close run thing as the Allies had bad weather on their final turn. Had the sun been shining it might've been a different outcome.

If I remember that match correctly, Pavia did kill Russia in 45 with OCB's western Allies already over the German border.
