Post-1945: Are Soviet Reinforcements Pre-Programmed?

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Post-1945: Are Soviet Reinforcements Pre-Programmed?

Post by Brer Rabbit »

I have been playing this game for a while but thought I would try something different. As a test, I disabled the End-Game Date option and Fog of War and played Axis with the objective of holding a line essentially along the Smolensk longitude and inflicting heavy attrition on Soviet forces. By summer 1945, MPS for Germany were about 1200 per turn and Soviets at about 1400 per turn (with input from USA and UK). I was curious if a war of attrition might reduce Soviet forces to where I could destroy Soviet units faster than Soviet MPS could produce. I assumed (wrongly as it turned out) that whatever units were pre-programmed by the game's software code as scripted production (i.e., units not purchased by either the Player or Computer AI using MPS) would end at some point at or near this historical end of World War II. By the end of August 1945, and with Soviet MPS income at about 1400 per turn and with Germany at about 1200 per turn, I noticed that the computer Production screen for the Soviet for September and October 1945 was showing roughly 20 new units arriving in September and 14 arriving in October. By this point in the game, and even with Production research maxed out, and as the Axis Player, I was essentially only able to buy 1-2 moderate to expensive units (i.e., aircraft, HQ, tank) per turn after deducing MPS for reinforcing in-combat units. I looked at the units being "produced" by the Soviet computer AI, and for the month of September, it was producing multiple aircraft, tanks, and other expensive units, totaling 20 units in September and 14 more in October.

According to the Reports page, at this point in the game, as the Axis player, and playing a purposeful war of attrition along a line generally north-south of Smolensk, I had destroyed over 400 Soviet units to a loss of about 20 German units. However, even destroying Soviet units at a that rate, it appeared that the computer AI was programmed to receive an enormous amount of units beyond what it could otherwise be able to purchase using the MPS it was allocated at the start of each turn.

So here's the QUESTION: Is the computer AI programmed to produce "free" units for the Soviets beyond the historical end date of World War II???

Thanks in advance for a reply.

Hi

Any units that appear in the Production Queue - and that weren't there at the start of the game - will have been bought by the AI.

Scripted units do not appear in the Production Queue, and will likely most have been deployed earlier in the war, apart from perhaps some situation based ones.

I wonder if the AI is receiving MPP bonuses due to the difficulty settings (see the Options screen to tweak these if desired), as well as MPP income from the UK and USA that is enabling the USSR to outproduce you.

In addition to Bill's comments...

Are you taking into account the reduced cost (and reduced time) to rebuild units that were destroyed in good supply?
You are spending more on repairing damaged units from the fighting, the Soviets instead of spending on repairing (or probably a lot less) are spending on buying back those destroyed units at a discount (unless at less than 5 supply or cut off). With a high level of Production Tech, they become really cheap.

Also Soviet base INF Corps/Armies are cheaper than anyone elses.
