Attempting to change settings crashes games

Post by havoc1371 »

If I attempt to change any game settings the games crash (display, volume, music). Doesn't matter which one.

Hi,

If you are doing this in game, I would just double check that your Anti-Virus software has not blocked the USER folder for the game, e.g. just ensure you 'whitelist' the USER folder so that changes can be saved properly by the game.

Typically the USER folder can be found here, you'll have to replace the USERNAME and STRATEGIC COMMAND game name accordingly for your particular game:

\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\My Games\<STRATEGIC COMMAND GAME NAME>

Tried finding the folder, but I don't see any folders for Strategic Command in my C: drive user folders. Here is what I am getting when I attempt to change settings.

Permission denied error is then likely your Anti-Virus software locking out the game's USER folder from changes being applied to it.

The game from the screenshot looks to be World at War, so the path would be the following where you'll have to replace USERNAME with the username on your PC:

\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - World at War

What I would suggest is looking up how to 'whitelist' or add an 'exception' to a folder on your PC via your Anti-Virus software.

For example, if you are using AVAST, this is the info on how to do it:

I have Avast and followed the instructions, adding it as an exception. Didn't work. Still get the same error.

Hmm... perhaps you need to add an exception to the game EXE as well, try the same procedure and add an exception to the game EXE, e.g. navigate to where it is located/installed on your PC and see if that helps?

For a Matrix install it would be found here:

\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\Strategic Command WWII - World at War

Steam install would be here:

\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Strategic Command WWII World at War
