When I pick the transparent area of a png, it gives me the number 7829367. I assume you will try that in a COL file and let us know the result :)

I’ve made terrain transparent (invisible) by blanking out the three applicable terrain.png files. You might try a test by blanking out a single unit/icon in the three Unitcounter.png files. See if that produces the effect you want.

7829367 is not the transparent colour. It gives me a grey counter.

When talking about changing colours of Counters I'm talking about editing the "Counters" file in the Graphics Override.

The 'Counters' files have no impact on colours. Those are determined by the COL file, which is generated by hitting the 'X' key while in the deployment editor.

I'm no graphics expert, but I would think there must be a transparency code for png files. Actually, I guess you could say that the Counters files are transparent, and they are colored by the COL file.

I believe to get transparent colors you have to have a "00"Alpha hex color, and the Alpha is set using an 8-place hex color code with the Alpha digits being the last two.

White's hex color is #FFFFFF which converts to 16777215 in decimal colors. Decimal colors are what TOAW 4 runs on. (sorry to be didactic as you already know that).

So in theory #FFFFFF00 should be transparent - decimal color 4294967040 - but I don't think the game can handle an 8-place alpha-numeric hex color converted to a decimal color, because here's what I got when I made the German unit color ID10s main color 4294967040;
Transparent with white #s.png
Transparent with white #s.png (2.63 MiB) Viewed 832 times
An off-white. The numbers and background are white #FFFFFF/16777215 and look more white than the main color.

TLDNR; I don't think the game program can handle transparent unit colors.
If you're STILL making Panzer IIs after seeing your first T-34... you're probably going to lose.

I don't think the game program can handle transparent unit colors.
I used to make transparent centers for the unit counters in TOAW III, so I don't think it has to do with the program. I did a quick Google and got some answers relating to alpha channels, so I guess it is possible if you have the graphics know-how and are familiar with the goofiness of TOAW IV.

I guess because of the way counters are generated it is not possible.
Thanks for the help.

At the moment I have another issue.
All at once lines start showing up around units that have long range ability.
Is that a game settings issue or did something get messed up in my game files?

Cycle range visibility by punching the letter "I". Three or four punches ought to take you thru the entire cycle.
