In PBEM++ someone issued me some challenges but I don't know what the passwords or who the users are?

Send 'em a PM and ask about the password if you're interested in a game with them.

I think these are just general "challenges" meant for anyone to accept?

Ok but there is
A) no email to email them
B) they are marked with a password
Maybe Shadrach is right?

In these PBEM++ challenges there will be no email. It's all done through the PBEM++ server. Just click 'Accept' to get the ball rolling. I've never used this meself so beyond that I'm clueless.

My understanding is that password games are closed games in which the players know the password before hand. Open games are for anyone and not password protected. I posted a password game recently to a mate. He was emailed the password earlier.

You can look up the player using the member search list.

Also, the "passwords" are published, in the json.txt file
They are not really passwords, more like "gatekeeping"
WHAT ... is you favorite COLOR? type of things.
This is one of the confusing things about TOAW: I am convinced,
that many new players mistake this password for the the "game" password,
that is used when you try to open a move.
This really needs to be fixed. Maybe in TOAWV it will be fixed.
In mean time, best to not password a game challenge, if you are seeking an "any" opponent
