Does firing a MG twice is a segment increase the likelihood of a malfunction? In RL, probably yes. In TOH, no idea if that is modeled.

If TOTH follows ASL's example, most MG's and ordinance have about a 3% chance(rolling 12 on 2die6) to malfunction per firing. Some MG's and ordinance may have an approximate 8%(11 or 12 on 2d6) or 17%(10, 11 or 12 on 2d6) chance to malfunction. Though it feels like it happens more often than that, especially after a second or third shot from ROF, the chance should not increase with the subsequent firings. Again, this is if TOTH is following ASL principles. ASL has a "sustained fire" mechanic which increases the change of malfunction, but it doesn't appear to be implemented in TOTH since one cannot fire a weapon that is already marked with a fire counter.(ASL allows one more firing of an already fired weapon, sustained fire for MMG's and "intensive fire" for ordinance, but at a +2 on the dice roll(2 dice) for the chance to break the weapon)
All that being said, I could be wrong and TOTH has implemented its own malfunction algorithms. I am merely stating how ASL does it.

Akmatov, the short answer is YES firing anything is an opportunity for a malfunction. I would not waste firing at a weak or low probability target for risk of causing a malfunction. Man, I would get so pissed for firing at a half squad 10 hexes away and my MG or main armament malfunctions and the AI would present a more valuable target later or leaves me a sitting duck. So yeah, every time you fire the MG you risk Breakdown so choose your firing wisely.[:)]

Correct

I ofc had it figured out that any firing risked a malfunction. My question was does repeated firing in one segment INCREASE the chance of a malfunction.

Every new shot is a new probability so in a sense but in another way to look at it, the more shots you take the bigger risk to malfunction.
