After reading the manual and playing the game, I would like to know how a squad (or half-squad) can pick a left support weapon like a Medium MG.

Select the squad and the unpossessed SW, then click on the "Recover WP" button. You must have movement points remaining to attempt this action.

Sometimes, the "Recover WP" button does not appear even if you have remaining MPs: in this case, select another unit, then re-select the squad and the SW.

As an additional point, I don't think it's possible to recover unpossessed enemy SW.
