AAR - Hailstone's Deliverance Scenario.

Post by Big Ivan »

I took some time off from the Campaign Series to play Hailstone's Deliverance scenario.

I was the Americans and achieved a major victory.

It was a most enjoyable scenario! I came straight in with the Americans and started to neutralize the forward German infantry positions one by one. As one can see I lost several American Sherman tanks (7 of them) in the process. The German Self-Propelled guns were quite potent and scored 5 of the 7 Sherman kills before being dispatched by my last available Sherman in Turn 6 Prep Fire. From then on it was a mop up to kill the last German elite squad on the board. Most of the German infantry was eliminated by direct fire or failure to rout. There were a couple of close combats to in which the Germans didn't fair well only because they were out numbered 2 or 3 to one!

All in all Hailstone a good scenario and thanks for developing it!!

A parting shot end of Turn 8 showing the wrecks and final American position.

Outstanding John! I'm so glad you picked a scenario that played out well
for your first fray in TotH after a long absence. Lots of wrecks mean
lots of action with a little cussing on the side. Thanks for the shout out. [:)]

John, one more thing. I reread the "Aftermath" of the scenario
and it looks like you experienced in TotH what had originally
happened back then with the loss of so many Shermans but you
succeeded where the Americans couldn't with the destruction of
the Elephants. Again, outstanding. [:)]

Sam, those German AG's were pretty potent and yes I did cuss. But the fact that they were Assault Guns kind of helped my cause. When the turned to engage my sacrificial Sherman's on the road they presented their weaker armor to my lone Sherman in the center. That tank was able to dispatch them both.

I was also surprised that the German 9-2 leader with a squad in the stone building by the crossroads went down rather fast. From there my infantry was free to move in behind the German AG's as a Phase 2 backup plan should all my Sherman's get knocked out. It was touch and go for the first few turns until I could overwhelm the German infantry and move in closer.

Again a most enjoyable scenario my friend!![;)]
