See Venice and die

Here's the situation.
Napoleon beat the Austrians some time ago and is now looking to take on the Russians.
This turn he's with his army in Venice when Austria becomes a friendly neutral.
So Mr Bonaparte can't move to Tyrol or Milan to get back to France.
He is not allowed to declare war on Austria (friendly neutral).
His only option is to move south to the Italian states, probably not a good idea.
I doubt Napoleon would stay in a gondola on canal Grande until someone told him it is ok to head home.

I could upload a savegame if this forum (like Slitherine) would accept a zip file.

I thought you could move freely during one year (6 turns) into the land of a freshly defeated nation ?

Not freshly, it reverted back to a sovereign nation after some turns.

But I just discovered that I need to declare war on Vienna to be able to move into Milan, as Milan is controlled by Austria.
Too bad Prussia just declared war on the French.
Life was easier back on Corsica.

Ah. I see your problem. You are cut off by neutral (not friendly neutral any longer) territory.

Solutions:
1) Declare War on Austria (you can). This may not be desirable, but it does look like Napoleon's 19 army could probably take on the Austrians. The good news is that should be able to annex Milan during that war.

2) Use a 'Napoleon to Paris' card if you have it.

If there is a French army in the territory that belongs to a newly neutral nation (newly changed from friendly neutral to neutral), then they are moved to the closest French-owned region. To avoid being cut off like this, the player should always try to have a line of supply of French-owned, or at least un-owned regions.

For now, declare war on Austria again to get to Prussia.

No chance to use sea transport? (Not enough factors, perhaps, or British fleets blocking you?)

Will the 'Napoleon to Paris' card bring the troops along too?
I guess yes, since possibly leaving the army without any general spell disaster under the current movement rules.

But I would question the ability to move a whole army through possible enemy-occupied territory back to Paris.

Tried the 'napoleon to Paris' card, it only moved Nappy himself leaving his army stranded in Spain.
Oh well.
This card is only useful if Napoleon is caught in Moscow with a depleted army and you really need to save his sorry a$$.
