What does "Base Administration" do?

I can't seem to find a forum post that actually tells me what the tangible effects of "Base Administration" is for air bases. I understand stacking limits, but not base administration. Can someone tell me what happens when your base administration turns red and you are operating units in excess of base administration limits?

I do know how to improve base administration, that's not a problem. I just want to know why I should bother, and what happens to the units flying out of a base operationally if I don't. References appreciated.

I found this in section 9.4 of the manual

If an Airfield has too many aircraft (physical space) or groups (administrative) present, then the
airfield is deemed overstacked. And is indicated by an ‘*’ next to the airfield.
An overstacked airfield affects how many aircraft can be launched, casualties from attacks
and aircraft repairs.

Thank you both. Question answered. Overstacking can be from administration, physical space, or both.

Hi

I don't quite understand it
I have 4 groups at Hengchun (Level 2 Base). Screen shows Base Administration 3 groups:

2.jpg
2.jpg (151.49 KiB) Viewed 522 times
I have 1st Air Division Air HQ at Takao with Radius 4, also Attached to Southern Army like the Base Hengchun:

So the Base Administration should be 6? (2 from Hengschun AF Size und additional 4 for the Air HQ at Takao)?? ->But it shows 3 as Base Administration

P.S. Is it because the Zero is a navy Unit?

Thank's

Base Administration is how many air units can be based there based upon the size and the command structure. I presume it is for operations and how well the air units perform.

Correct.

HQ's dictate how many units can be commanded at a base. AV dictates how many planes can be supported at a base. Two aspects limiting the amount of air power that can be in a base at one time. Exceeding either limit will cause lack of coordination and other nefarious effects.

In other words, if you exceed the Base Administration, then things go from the complex US Military terms of SNAFU to FUBAR which results in your pixelated unit members stating "DILLIGAF!" before they walk away from the Chinese Fire Drill.

There's no distinction between nations.

The reason is ones a detachment.

If you have a look at my air guide its all in there

Great!!! So a detachment does not count as a "whole" group!? I have read your excellent air guide but i probabely missed that part with "detachment".
Thank you so much

ok i have found it. I missed this part of your guide!

Another reason why it is only 3 units administered at a level 2 base - you can only have one more squadron than the airfield size (if no HQ is increasing the admin capacity).
And in PaxMondo's post his reference to AV must mean Air Support, not Assault Value. AV is often used to mean Aviation in the game so it can be confusing to have multiple meanings.

Correct. My bad. Yes, in this context AV is Aviation Support.

Actually, there are two detachments in the picture. One of them is a detachment of another unit at the same base so I presume that those two parts of the same unit just equate to one unit. The same situation should apply to a unit broken into thirds.
