What are the game map preset sizes? (help with 4k monitor map scrolling)

Post by Slick91 »

I’m getting back into this game after a long hiatus. I am using the SeaBee & WinExp apps with good success in setting up the game to play on a 4k UHD widescreen monitor but need a little help - if possible - to know how wide to set the -pxf number on a per scenario basis. The main complaint (not a bug!) is in how the screen jumps around on small map scenarios when scrolling around.

I’d like to get the yellow box as close to the width of the game’s red box outline (see screenshot).

My simplistic thinking is the game map boundaries are preset somewhere in each scenario's data files so this could be somehow translated easily into my monitor’s -pxf setting. If true, where would the map setups be and can I easily retrieve it with something like Notepad? In theory, I could have a game shortcut for each scenario map setting (if I had that much free time in my life 😉 ). Just curious if this was even somewhat possible?

Only got a bog standard dispay but looking at how it's displays over the years I don't think you can do what I think tou want to do.

The map isn't scalable, no zoom etc. All that happens with the -pxf and -ppyf setting is the computer scales te whole map up or down. I don't think there's anything directly that affect scrolling in game, but think you can control in machine wise.

I did put this together there might be something in that helps. https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... t#p5077564

Can be Done.
Hwo did you get such a wide view area? What version of the game are you running?

Stutter Definition: To move or act in a halting or spasmodic manner.

The Guadalcanal Scenario has a graphic stutter when moving the mouse.
If you watch the jump window when you move the mouse you can see it bounce.
It has been that way for a long time.

It is caused by the fact that the view area overlaps the scenario boundary area.

That needs to be fixed in the new Beta and it would be good if it
were fixed in the 26a/26b scenarios as well.

Player modified: One way is to go into the Editor and move the boundary line.
Guadalcanal….Change the right boundary from 126 to 132.

Same with the Coral Sea, Change the Right boundary to 134.

The most recent Beta 27.2

Guad and Coral per above.

The Thousand Mile War, Right boundary change to 181.

Battle of Burma, bottom boundary change to 64.

For players….You will have to save the changed scenarios down to a different slot.

Thanks for the feedback! What I'm trying to describe is the screen image when I use the arrow keys to scroll the map around. My current experience is that it bounces left and right as it rolls up or down. It is almost nauseating to watch like a strobe light. My goal is to be able to just go up and down without the bouncing affect. It is not an issue at all as long as the map size exceeds my monitor's view.

@Trugrit, I think this is what I was looking for so much appreciated!!! I forgot all about the editor so that may be a good place for me to start.

You want the boundary area to be as tight as possible because the rest of the game
has not been cleared out of the small scenario beyond the boundaries.

So if you change the boundary to be very large you are going to pick up bases and units
that are not supposed to be in the small scenarios.

Ok, that makes sense... I'll play around with it to see what is the best solution. Would be awesome if we could ever get a Beta update to tackle the 4k issues and scaling but I greatly appreciate everyone's ongoing development and dedication to this great game!!!

Also, forgot to mention that I'm on the latest Beta downloaded from the My Page link (Update v1127Beta). I'm able to run it on a LG 38" UHD 4k (3840 x 1600 native) using the SeaBee and WinExp apps. However, the best I could "fix" the wide screen was to 3709x1600. If I jump as much as 3710x1600 it breaks the map and puts large black areas all over the hexes. Not perfect but it does work (but the icons are really tiny)!!!

If interested, here is my SeaBee provided shortcut path:

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -SingleCpuOrders -cpu4 -wd -pxf3709 -pyf1600 -deepColor -dd_sw -multiaudio -altFont -archive
