I am proud to officially announce my next War In the Pacific PBEM Campaign! Hellsen will be the opponent and we'll be switching sides this time around, with playing the Allies and me playing the Japanese. ***EDIT*** My opponent surrendered on or around 10 February 1942. The Might of the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces were too great. Thanks to everyone who followed along.

I'm back with another update. This one may be a little long as I discuss my R&D, production, and industry, as well as some mistakes I made that caused me some setbacks. We are getting closer to the campaign start!

This turn was an epic disaster. I know I am new to playing Japan but I never expected things to go this poorly. This does not bode well for the remainder of our campaign, if I am taking defeats like this on turn 2. Come watch a slaughter.

We had a better performance this turn, but I am still not happy. For the second time this campaign, my units did NOT pursue the enemy after defeating them in a hex when it was absolutely crucial for them to do so. I think I've discovered either a game bug or a "working as intended" function in ground combat that has major implications on things going forward. Come take a look and share your thoughts with me.

Just when I thought things could not get any worse, they do! Due to my horrible deployment of the KB, I've boxed myself into a corner I can't get out of, and paid the ultimate price. I've made so many mistakes in this campaign it's not even funny, but fear not, Hellsen is back to save the day and has a plan. You guys may not like it, but ultimately I feel if we execute his plan it will result in a more enjoyable campaign with more longevity than this disaster I've created would.

The Gary Grigsby Dice Man has blessed us and rewarded us for dealing with a lot bad luck! Our campaign is back on, restarting on December 7th. Things went a lot better this time around and I am completely satisfied with the result!

After I sent this turn to Hellsen, I went back and looked over what I did and was horrified with the giant holes I left wide open for him to wreck me. I'm going to talk about those issues and we will see immediately after if they came to fruition or not. Much hangs in the balance.

One of my biggest fears came to reality today. A lack of coordination with a bomber flight led to an epic melt down over Manila. The sky was alight with Japanese aircraft parts. I was very upset initially, but after calming down I realized I just need to be better. GIT GUD. I've got a new plan and I'm going to start implementing it now!

This post is about the 10 Dec turn that you have not yet posted here. I was wondering about the air attacks from Kuching and Manado that were successful in getting torpedo hits on Allied ships.
I believe neither Manado nor Kuching are level 4 air bases at the start of the campaign and I have been under the impression that level bombers need to be at a AF4 to be able to carry torpedoes and then only if the is a HQa that is can supply the torpedoes (or a command HQ).
Since the campaign is just at 10Dec when these attacks took place it seems unlikely that both AF could have been built up to level 4 and HQa moved to both bases in the short time available.
I base the above on Section 9.4 of the manual as well as 7.2.1.7 which spell out that the level bombers need a level 4 AF or their missions are subject to being treated as flying at extended range and therefore can only carry extended range bomb loads which exclude torpedoes.
I must be missing something. Please comment on this when you post this days action.

Netties can fly with torps from lvl 3 airfields. Not sure about what the manual says but 'it is known' & 100% so. That is why JFB's grab Manado & that base in the NE corner of Borneo ASAP, to basically shut down Allied shipping in most of DEI.

That is very interesting. From the screen above it appears that Betties can also. In fact, I think the strike from north Borneo came from Kuching which is only an AF2 at the start.

'Netties' is a term meaning Betties & Nells. They are used in the same manner as to almost be the same plane .
